Cambridge by-election

I'm not from Cambridge but have been interested in the results of yesterday's by-election. It came about due to Ann Sinnott's resignation.

Anyway, you may remember that her vacant seat came about, in part by the actions of the Lib Dem candidate Sarah Brown who is named in Johnny Best's 'coming out' as gender critical article and is also famous for extending an invitation to suck her formaldehyde balls. Ann in her own words here blogs.spectator.co.uk/2018/08/ive-quit-the-labour-party-because-it-has-betrayed-women/. After Ann resigned Sarah Brown stood and canvased for Ann's empty seat.

Anyway, to cut a long story short labour won the seat last night. Sarah is delighted she lost, according to her twitter. Well she is delighted with the results, the ones where she lost. The Labour vote has decreased since May, suggesting that the new candidate is less popular than the strong and principled Ann, but clearly preferable to the Cambridge green and libdem alternatives.

Good. Fuck off Sarah Brown

SwearyG · 14/09/2018 08:13

What Orchid said.

Annandale · 14/09/2018 08:19

Oh thank God for that.

I've been thinking about liberalism since reading Sarah Brown's blog. About how to balance individual liberty, which matters a lot in our culture, with the fact that no man is an island and the tag 'as long as it doesn't hurt anyone else' is quite difficult to predict given the fact we all live in communities. No answers im afraid but at least it makes me think more about my vote.

LangCleg · 14/09/2018 08:34

Good.

And I hope Ann is doing well sans councillorship.

fidgetspinner555 · 14/09/2018 08:43

Well done Cambridge! You've done the right thing by not voting in Sarah Brown.

LemonJello · 14/09/2018 08:51

Sarah is delighted she lost, according to her twitter. Well she is delighted with the results, the ones where she lost.

Aye, that’ll be right 😂

I’d like to complain about this comment.
I just laughed so hard, I woke my baby.

Beautifulday49 · 14/09/2018 09:02

I used to live in Cambridge and don't care for it much, but still I'm delighted that Sarah Brown isn't elected.

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 14/09/2018 13:18

Ann is exactly the kind of representative women need right now

We wouldn't be in this mess if there were more like her.

I'm so cross she was forced out

fyi Sarah held this seat in the past, and one of Sarah's polyamorous (of course) transgender partners, Zoe O'Connell has also stood for election here. Unsuccessfully. But now holds Trumpington ward. Also lost deposit twice in Maldon at general elections. 2015 performance particularly embarrassing coming fifth behind a very weak Independent candidate.

Zoe is up for election in May 2019, not clear between Tories and Labour about possible winner. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cambridge_City_Council_election,_2015

Sarah Brown thinks that strip searching people is a perk of being a police officer.
I say this, because years ago Sarah Brown was supportive of a campaign to let police officers perform strip searches upon the gender of prople they identify as. Yup. That is right. A police officer has the 'right' to perform strip searches. Back on planet normal, people performing strip searches do it reluctantly as a way of ensuring safety and that the law is upheld.

Disturbing creepy fucker. I'll never get past that.

BreakWindandFire · 14/09/2018 14:10

That's interesting WhereDoWeBeginToCovetClarice. I first peak-transed about 15 years ago when I had contact with a transwoman through my work. An utterly horrible, hideous misogynist. Who boasted they wanted to become a customs officer in order to finger women.

I think for some transwomen there's a desire for abusive power over women.

shudder

The Labour vote has decreased since May, suggesting that the new candidate is less popular than the strong and principled Ann, but clearly preferable to the Cambridge green and libdem alternatives.

It's also possible that a lot of Labour women voters are no longer prepared to vote for a party that is throwing them under the bus.

WarmWishes · 14/09/2018 15:18

Yes or the ongoing national picture with labour in terms of anti semitism. Many people who vote in local elections are guided by national issues and know very little about their local candidates.

Hee hee. Off you fuck Sarah. Don’t let the door hit you on your ass on the way out.

IveChangedMyNameForThis · 14/09/2018 17:51

Thanks to this farce I have just seen Sarah Brown on twitter being hugged by a man who TEACHES MY FUCKING CHILDREN. I am so, beyond angry at this.

I really am absolutely incandescent at this point at the rank misogyny throughout our society. This is vile.

BettyDuMonde · 14/09/2018 18:47

I hope former Cllr Sinnott’s successor and the Cambridge Council Labour group will take notice of the shrinking majority and listen to what Ann has to say about the Equality Act and how it was illegally amended in Cambridge.

I’m sure Ann will be happy to provide some consultancy advise/training, both to ensure the Labour council is not in breech of the law moving forward, and because Ann actually gives a shit about women and children.

Ereshkigal · 14/09/2018 18:59

Well done Cambridge 👏👏👏

rosaprimula · 15/09/2018 14:47

was unable to vote for Labour so defaced my ballot paper - Labour have betrayed women and Sarah Brown is despicable

BettyDuMonde · 15/09/2018 14:51

Did you write that on, Rosaprimula?

All candidates and their agents have to view every spoiled ballot and agree that it’s spoiled before it can be counted as such. It’s a good opportunity to write things you really want to be sure they read.

‘Women don’t have penises’ would work well!

placemats · 15/09/2018 15:07

LibDem did well. Shock.

placemats · 15/09/2018 15:10

Plus the Conservatives did worse than the odious Brown.

This was an anti Brexit vote.

KatVonGulag · 15/09/2018 16:53

Must admit to a chortle here.
