Are there ANY political parties that stand for women?

PerverseConverse · 12/09/2018 23:23

I am a woman. I am a woman who feels threatened by men invading private spaces, I am worried for my young daughters being exposed to all this brainwashing woke shite, I'm worried for the future of women and society as a whole. Who will stand for me politically as a woman? I was briefly a labour supporter after a late in life interest in politics but don't feel I can support a party who don't support me and my rights as a woman. I am politically homeless now and am angry that my right to vote is negated by the lack of a party who will stand for women. Is there a party out there that's prepared to stand up for women, stand up against the brainwashing, stand up against the oppression of women, stand up against a society that's going backwards? Is there a party who is brave enough to tackle the issues head on and not be afraid to call out the misogynists who now have a new stick with which to beat us?

LOL at the PP who suggested the WEP.

Kyanite · 13/09/2018 08:38

No. They are all following "international best practice"...apart from UKIP, who criticise women for not cleaning behind the fridge - they don't care about anyone's rights except men who want to be men.

GulagsMyArse · 13/09/2018 08:46

Cwenthryth are consulting now? It's a bit late in the day considering the government consultation ends next month.
They treated Heather very badly.

Are they really willing to take the heat if membership is against it?
If you have more info about what there are doing re consultation, id like to hear about it.

thanks

ItsLikeNew · 13/09/2018 10:11

I totally agree with you vicviking.

But what I was getting at is Whigs seemed the sort to swallow it hook line and sinker without a second glance, just because it's sold as 'progressive'.

vicviking · 13/09/2018 10:17

Itslike - that's a shame then maybe someone else should move into this space. I was hoping for a breakaway of moderates from the main parties selling themselves in as grown ups on a number of issues including this one.

vicviking · 13/09/2018 10:20

Kyranite - what I find frustrating on international comparisons is that with th GRA the UK was already ahead of most countries on trans rights. Other countries seem to have gone more 0-60 on this and are being held up as examples. I don't think that makes much sense.

Cwenthryth · 13/09/2018 14:30

From my point of view, as an individual WEP member, the government consultation deadline is a red herring, it’s small, limited and biased, and as a political party WEP doesn’t have to limit itself to responding to a government consultation, or to soley having an opinion on existing legislation or Tory proposals. AFAIK there is no commitment from the government to act on the outcome of the consulation.

My hope is that WEP can devise radical new policies that aim to sort out the whole mess of legal conflation of sex and gender, securely protect sex based rights and single sex spaces, as well as protecting everyone from discrimination/harassment and, possibly, offering an appropriate degree of gender identity recognition without impinging on single sex provisions (because gender identity, whilst not for me and not something I personally subscribe to, is not going away. I see this possibly being achieved by legally separating sex and gender).

This is my personal view. Conference was only a few days ago, it is still to be seen in what form the consultation will be and how it will go. WEP is already taking heat just for having the conversation, to be honest. But when no other party is even allowing debate, WEP is encouraging and facilitating it. And my point of posting about it here is that I believe this an opportunity for those of us whose voices are being silenced elsewhere to be heard.

GulagsMyArse · 13/09/2018 15:00

Thanks Cwenthryth yes I do get they are the only ones who have been willing to have the debate. I still think its shocking that Heather got ousted for advising caution around children transiting.

Hoebver Ill think about what you have said.

the whole thing is such a mess now, that all laws need to be extensively revised. How that could happen in the current climate, I don't know.

GulagsMyArse · 13/09/2018 15:00

However, ( sorry typo)

arranfan · 13/09/2018 15:08

It doesn't seem to be a political party - and it seems to be very early days - does anyone know is behind, Standing for Women?

www.standingforwomen.com/campaign-golas

NB - I'm very disappointed in WEP's mealy-mouthed response to the TES item about sexual violence in schools.

BiologyIsReal · 13/09/2018 15:11

we openly held a debate on legal self-ID, and from being in the room there really is a pretty much 50-50 split, there are strong voices in the party both for and against

So that's a no then.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 13/09/2018 15:12

Cwenthryth thanks for that info.

If I thought that the WEP would be willing to stand up for women I'd vote for them, in fact, I'd join and campaign for them.

I'll do some reading - my perception has been that they didn't think very deeply about women's needs.

Similarly with the Lib Dems, they've no interest in protecting my rights if a trans person needs them first. Labour's a disaster, their women's officer thinks her male body can get pregnant. Greens are learning what happens if you question the TRA, so, at least they are learning something. I have never ever contemplated voting Tory, but...

Hey, political parties - if you want my vote, protect my rights to single sex spaces and you can have it.

bzzbeebzz · 13/09/2018 15:18

Cwenthryth I would also join WEP if I thought my voice would be heard. Will GC people really be listened to though? You have some scary characters on the other side.

It’s got to be better than being fobbed off by my female Labour MP in her safe seat grrrrr

HandlebarTash81 · 13/09/2018 15:23

I don’t want a party who consults men on what makes a woman. I want someone who already knows what one is. Never thought that would be a difficult ask really.

stillathing · 13/09/2018 15:26

i want a left wing party that recognises how females are disadvantaged as a class! i find it curious when identity politics is described as a far left thing. it is a capitalist's wet dream and always reminds me of thatcher's "there's no such thing as society only the individual" quote.

that the wep conference had a 50 / 50 split on self ID tells me something about the privilege of the people in that room. and their treatment of HBE was appalling. and yet i hear what you are saying Cwenthryth. and Sophie Walker was good on prostitution..... argh i think i have a 50 / 50 split on whether to engage with them on this.

WhereDoWeBeginToCovetClarice · 13/09/2018 15:36

It seems now that we need our own union, our own party, we need our own everything.

All that we've had has been thrown to the penises and handmaidens.

Stickerladiesoftheworldunite · 13/09/2018 15:37

Sorry, but until WEP can speak against he who must not be named by saying TW are not women, then nope

bzzbeebzz · 13/09/2018 15:39

An infiltration of the WEP is appealing. That’s all the TRAs have done but they got in early.

Yvaine1 · 13/09/2018 15:45

Just cancelled Labour Party membership this morning.

  • Brexit
  • self ID
  • Corbyn
  • Racism

Been a member for decades and always voted. Just can't do it. I don't know these people at all.

Can't bear to look at Corbyn on another trans photo op.

Am male, and joined the Lab Party on justice principles. Eviscerating the status of my immediate family, and friends, is just beyond stomaching.

No party anywhere near worth voting for. So homeless.

ImPreCis · 13/09/2018 15:48

Always voted Labour or Green, well what a joke they are. Had such high hopes when Corbyn was elected. Also really admired Caroline Lucas.
I am isolated in my family, where my DCs are all ‘woke’ and although I have peak transed my DH he still thinks Corbyn will come good, and he will continue to vote Labour because, as he says if they all want Self ID then might as well vote for them due to their other policies.
So, politically bereft. If the Tories come good on this issue I will actually consider voting for them, although I think the most likely outcome will be a spoilt ballot paper. Something like ‘Votes for Women without Dicks’ scrawled in Purple?
Cannot forgive WEPs disgusting treatment of Heather, and actually I think that tells you exactly where the WEP are on this issue.

HandlebarTash81 · 13/09/2018 15:51

I quite like the idea of reigniting Votes for women. Says it all really.

arranfan · 13/09/2018 15:53

Yvaine1 - did you tell them why you'd cancelled?

Yvaine1 · 13/09/2018 15:57

I spoke to someone on the membership line and they didn't ask and didn't show any urge to record or have any 'exit' note. Just told me they won't try to reclaim the DD ( as the bank warned they might) and gave me an email address to cancel all membership details.

Am sure this function is farmed out to external companies who are told to just process the stuff.

I'd like to have put my point over but it's also just so miserable to do so. I imagine.

LangCleg · 13/09/2018 16:06

I am still getting emails from Labour warning me that I'm so far in arrears with subs that they're about to cancel my membership. This in spite of my informing my CLP and membership (both several times) saying that I'm resigning membership and why, and asking for confirmation.

failingatlife · 13/09/2018 16:06

Sad state of affairsSad There is no one I can vote for at the moment. UKIP may be against self ID but they also dont agree with maternity leave etc. They want women back in the kitchen Hmm. If a new socialist party started who were willing to say no to this bs I would support them in a heartbeat.
