FFS Now Thinx have gone woke

I have been considering buying some period underwear for a while now and, having seen an advert for them almost every time I open my Facebook app I finally decided to purchase some Thinx pants.

Only I didn't go through with the purchase. Because their website has removed almost all trace of the word "girls" and "women" and replaced them with phrases such as "bleeders" and "people with periods".
I know this has happened relatively recently as I've been on their website fairly frequently, deciding on whether or not to buy from them. I can only imagine that they are doing this slowly.

I will not be buying any Thinx underwear now (I'm looking at WUKA, if anyone's interested) as I do not I identify as a "bleeder" but as a WOMAN.

"bleeders"

Fucking hell, how offensive is this shit..

Pigeonpost · 12/09/2018 23:48

Bleeders?!?! Yuck, that's awful. I find the idea of period underwear a bit icky, I much prefer my cup.

thewitchofwentworth · 13/09/2018 00:02

They do use "menstruators".

As I went to leave the page I get a popup that says "...have you read our reviews from real menstruating humans yet?"

And further down the page it says "Get started with a few favorites from menstruators like you!"

As for "bleeders"

www.shethinx.com/blogs/womens-health/period-products-timeline-sea-sponge-menstrual-cup

"Like today, some bleeders were just not down to regularly deal with the blood that collects in a cup."

"Do you have any doctor-approved period hacks that bleeders like us can do to save time, money, or stress? Spill!"

7toGo · 13/09/2018 00:02

Yep, there was another thread about Thinx on here a couple of months ago.

AngryAttackKittens · 13/09/2018 00:14

I feel like "fuck you, potential customers!" may not be the best marketing strategy.

AngryAttackKittens · 13/09/2018 00:16

Watch it there, author, you forgot that you were supposed to pretend that it isn't women who menstruate during this bit.

"Also, women tended to menstruate much less — they started their flows later in their teens, spent more time pregnant (or breastfeeding) and thus not bleeding, hit menopause earlier, and, unfortunately, died earlier. "

MsBeee · 13/09/2018 00:18

Its so arrrrrrgh.

Why don't they just go for

CSI pants or murder scene pants.

what a fucking shame, such a great idea, much better for the environment, safer than tampax with all the horrible bleach on them.

I don't have periods anymore because of cancer treatment, but I wouldn't give the them my fucking money. Bog off wokey wankers .

OkMaybeNot · 13/09/2018 07:23

If they wanted to be inclusive of transmen, why didn't they just say 'women and people with periods'.

Why is the word woman so fucking offensive.

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 13/09/2018 07:49

Menustrating humans... Sweet Jesus Hmm

RiverTam · 13/09/2018 07:59

Thanks for highlighting this, complaining email on the way to them. Couldn’t see bleeders on the website, but young people with periods and menstruators was enough for me.

SirVixofVixHall · 13/09/2018 08:50

It really seems like the worst marketing strategy ever, doesn’t it ? Tell your target market you want them to feel comfortable to talk about their bodies etc etc bla bla bla..key words like “positive” “freedom” etc, then..REFUSE TO EVEN SAY THE WORD FOR THE PEOPLE YOU ARE TALKING TO .
And “bleeders”... 😮😡

Juells · 13/09/2018 09:11

We have a great product for all you bloody knickers folk!

Juells · 13/09/2018 09:18

"Do you have any doctor-approved period hacks that bleeders like us can do to save time, money, or stress? Spill!"

The women they were interviewing (a doctor and a med student) consistently referred to women as women.

AngryAttackKittens · 13/09/2018 09:33

"Do you have any period hack for bleeders?"

(Eyebrows raise)

"Well, women may find that holding a hot water bottle against their tummies helps. Because that's where the uterus is, but only in women."

RiverTam · 13/09/2018 16:06

I’ve had a response from THINX

THANK YOU for taking the time to reach out and share your perspective. We truly value every point of view from every person in our community — yours included!

THINX is a women-led company with strong feminist values. We never try to avoid the word “woman”—in fact, one of our weekly newsletters is named Women’s Health Wednesday, and our website and social handles are all shethinx—but we do try to speak to as many people with periods as possible, and that includes individuals who identify as women, men, queer, and a lot of things in between. We constantly receive feedback from people, of all different gender identities, thanking us for our inclusive language.

The fact of the matter is, people do get periods. It just so happens that a lot of these people are women. To be as inclusive as possible, we lead with language that speaks to as many as possible — never forgetting the unique struggles and experiences of women.

Obviously I have replied pointing out what a load of garbage this is.

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 13/09/2018 16:19

Jesus Hmm it just so happens that a lot of people who get periods are women...

You’d imagine people marketing period pants would be better acquainted with human anatomy.
Dickheads.

Juells · 13/09/2018 16:25

It just so happens that a lot of these people are women.*

Ha ha so they call their customers bleeders.

Haworthia · 13/09/2018 16:31

Bleeders? Menstruators? How fucking dehumanising.

It’s women, women, women.

Oh, but what about the women who don’t menstruated for whatever reason? Won’t they be triggered, upset and offended? I’m guessing the answer is: of course not.

BettyDuMonde · 13/09/2018 16:38

I screenshotted this insta ad the other day - thought it was lovely, especially as my stepdaughter (12) has recently started her period.

Sad that something so unashamedly about girls seems unusual in these times.

Anyway, of course, there it was, lurking in the comments...

‘This isn’t very inclusive, what about trans men and non-binary people’?

So there we have it, not content with destroying women’s spaces, sports and political representation, now the asshats (gender neutral insult) are set on ruining poetry too.

(Round of applause for Always though!)

FFS Now Thinx have gone woke
Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 13/09/2018 16:42

Inclusive? Why does any mention of menstruation have to be “inclusive”?
If it relates to you, consider it addressed to you. If it doesn’t; get a fucking life. Jesus Hmm

Flexoset · 13/09/2018 16:55

From the sound of their response, they're trying not to alienate female-to-male transgender people. Not male-to-female transgender people. If that's their aim then I can see their point, in principle.

Not that that excuses the crass rudeness of calling their customers "bleeders," though. FFS. Whoever they've got writing that shit needs to be sacked.

Flexoset · 13/09/2018 16:57

I look forward to all the Andrex adverts addressed to all you shitters out there.

thurmanmerman · 13/09/2018 17:05

Flexoset I have just done a proper guffaw at that Grin

NicoAndTheNiners · 13/09/2018 17:16

This is as bad as the handmaidens who contacted hospital where I work moaning about the maternity info leaflets talking about women. Because don’t you know men (ie biological women who identify as men) can get pregnant. We politely told them to bugger off.

NicoAndTheNiners · 13/09/2018 17:18

Wow even more shit on their website.

“Separate but equal” bathrooms were only introduced in the late 19th century to reinforce the idea that women, the ~inherently weaker~ sex, needed a special place to themselves for safety. This ideology continues today, with the harmful argument that micromanaging where trans people pee “protects” women. In reality, trans people need the most protection in public spaces.

So trans people, ie biological men....need more protection than women?

I’d been looking at thinx pants for dd but won’t bother now.
