Sorry if this has been posted already. Maybe I should re-title: 'AIBU to expect better of Schools Week?'

Trans young people are facing horrific levels of bullying*

From adults who are trying to brainwash, drug and mutilate them and from lobby groups facilitating this and cashing in on it.

So, you support attacking children who are questioning their gender? And you believe that those who do are a risk to other students?

RiverTam · 12/09/2018 08:01

So you think that children should be taught the absolute falsehood that they can choose whether to be a boy or a girl in school, Bronners? Do you think they should be taught creationism too? If not, why not?

Lancelottie · 12/09/2018 08:05

I looked at the stickers. They says things like ‘Children have a right to privacy from the opposite sex’ and ‘x percent of new referrals to gender clinics are girls’. Those don’t sound like ‘attacking children’ to me, even if they’re hard to hear.

Charliethefeminist · 12/09/2018 08:08

Lot of grooming of journalists has gone on in the past and continues.

www.allabouttrans.org.uk/journalist-covering-the-gra-your-handy-briefing-sheet/

This organisation has done very well with its soft PR. It has taken into schools the message that trans includes gender non conforming kids who aren't trans, so that it looks like they challenge stereotypes instesd of asserting them.

Nb I know that trans kids are mostly regular GNC, but there persists this 'true trans' myth.

Charliethefeminist · 12/09/2018 08:23

@rowantrees that document might be interesting because it covers the prisons issue too. It's actually extremely misleading, including some absolute falsities, but you can see some of the tropes in there that get repeated over and over again.

Er no. But your framing of that question reminds me of the trans activists on Twitter.

Obviously, putting boys who say they are girls in with girls is putting females at risk of danger and taking their privacy and choice away.

Imagine a couple of 6ft year 10 males changing/showering with a 7st 5ft year 10 girl. Don't you see any dangers? Or, as Posie Parker says, a girl in a cubicle, embarrassed, first period trying to sort a tampon out, knowing a penis is in a cubicle next door. Don't see any problem?

I support organisations like Transgendertrend going into school. Their resources packs are balanced, factual and should be used in more schools.

What I don't support are the lies and propaganda pushed by the liked of Stonewall.and Mermaids in telling children they can change sex. Or that if a boy likes pink he must be a girl. I don't support any lobby group that advocates surgery and medication in children to 'help' them transition.

I don't support the fact that little girls' (who by the way are facing growing levels of abuse off boys in school, as well as self harm) needs are put behind those of males in Stonewall's world.

You should watch Posie Parker's video (see other thread). It hits the nail on the head

That's exactly what I thought of that comment Stickerladies

Sillydoggy · 12/09/2018 12:00

That is such an annoying article. It is always one sided argument. What about girls being bullied out of their rights at school? Everyone matters not just trans kids.

Sparctopus · 12/09/2018 13:47

Seemed to me that TGT came out of that pretty well on the whole actually, except they weren't given a chance to respond to the last part. If I read that without knowing much about the issues I would definitely be wanting to find out more. (I would say "no such thing as bad publicity" except I think a few of the trans activists are doing their best to disprove that for their cause!)

Bronners is one of the TRA activists from twitter.

So, you support attacking children who are questioning their gender? And you believe that those who do are a risk to other students?

Reminded me of that brilliant interview where the right-on interviewer kept explaining back to Jordan Peterson "So what you're saying is..." while giving a transphobic version that he hadn't said at all. He wiped the floor with her.

Stickerladiesoftheworldunite · 12/09/2018 20:13

Sturdy I wonder how I could tell?

Juells I need to look that clip up.

The dramatic stance of that some TAs take in their
arguments are summed up perfectly in Sarah Ditum's blog, where she talks about a common tactic:

"No other ideology, except perhaps the early church, makes such heavy use of martyrs. (Incidentally, one theory about Christianity’s severe prohibitions on suicide is that they were introduced because the celebration of self-sacrifice was breeding an unsustainable number of suicides.) Either you support gender self-identification and treatment on demand, or you are a murderer. Either you say “trans women are women”, or you are a murderer. No one has ever explained how other people’s failure to believe in gender identity could cause men (since violence against trans people is overwhelmingly male violence) to commit violence against trans people"

Transgender Trend is withdrawing the stickers:

Although we obviously never intended our stickers to be used in schools, we understand people's concerns that they could be used to create conflict between students. This is the last thing we want, so we have withdrawn the stickers from our site. We are sorry, we made a mistake.
