Another reason why male sex offenders may want to transition in prison.

I am reliably told that as a 'woman' they do not have to attend the courses that other male sex-offenders are obliged to undertake as part of their rehabilitation. They do not have to confront their crimes and they might even get a cell to themselves. Getting transferred to the female prison estate is obviously the very best outcome for them but as you can see there are other benefits to being a 'woman'.

Wasn't there also an offender who walked away from court for this reason? Hopefully someone will have a link.
Plus, as a trans person they cannot be 'deadnamed'; so their crimes are concealed.

I've heard prisoners "convert" to all sorts of religions just so they can get special privileges.

So of course if "identifying" as women gets perks they will do it.

I believe they get to shower privately and other privileges.

Article here about the perks gained by identifying as women:

www.google.co.uk/amp/www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5377089/amp/Prisoners-anger-transgender-inmates-perks.html

A convict at Northumberland jail wrote: ‘Transgender prisoners get to shower in private, while other prisoners, gay or straight, have to shower together in one big open room. Is this fair?

‘Transgender prisoners are allowed to put signs on their cell doors asking staff to knock before entering or looking through the observation hatch.

‘Why can’t male prisoners be afforded the same courtesy?’

Another wrote: ‘The sickest part is that the system can do sod all about these trans bandwagon jumpers, because the policy states they must be treated as transgender prisoners “if they say they are”.’

The Ministry of Justice said: ‘There are stringent procedures in place to ensure transgender prisoners are managed safely and in accordance with the law. We have robust safeguards in place to ensure that the system is not abused.’

They should set up transgender prison wings and put them all there together. Easy.

‘Transgender prisoners are allowed to put signs on their cell doors asking staff to knock before entering or looking through the observation hatch.

Do female prisoners have this right? How convenient for any male faking being trans just for the perks as they can adopt the persona just when someone comes knocking.

These perks all seem to give the prisoner not just comforts but greater personal power and status, especially in their interactions with guards. Specialness. It changes the nature of the controls over them.

And being able to identify away from the the crime and the identity who did the crime. That is a powerful psychological device to use, and to offer. I agree that lots of male criminals will just love it.

Who has written the procedures?

BetsyM00 · 07/09/2018 22:29

There's this case: transcrimeuk.com/2017/10/31/alice-smith/

"The judge, while noting it was rare for women to commit this kind of crime, then proceeded to find it inexplicable that there were not any specific internet sex offenders’ treatment programmes for women (who, remember, rarely commit this kind of crime)."

MsBeee · 07/09/2018 23:01

Betsy at the end of that article, 2 links to press stories in which it was reported as a woman, downloading child pornography.

"The court heard Smith, of Bromley Road, Ardleigh, had 1,200 indecent images of children on a computer tower and a laptop seized by police from her home in September 2015.

Michael Crimp, prosecuting, said 200 of the images were at the highest level A, 300 were at level B and there were 700 in the lowest C category.

I think the government must give us answers as to what sex the offenders are being listed as on their crime stats.
