100 Women: The truth behind the 'bra-burning' feminists

I really enjoyed this read and am trying to think what to tell the BBC I'd put in the trash can today!

I'd start with the BBC.

Knickknack wins kills the thread before it's even begun.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 07/09/2018 17:21

I'm sure they will appreciate the input - the form is at the end of the article!

This caught my eye:

They had also realised that this was a fight they needed to take on themselves.

"We already knew that the male right was not our friend," she says.

"We thought the male left were our brothers [but] discovered that was not really the case when we talked about our own rights."

None of the women could have imagined that their protest would still have resonance, 50 years on.

Plus ça change.Sad

So... are we allowed to throw woke lefty dudebros in the can? Or maybe just a little token eg OJ?

NothingOnTellyAgain · 07/09/2018 20:36

Yes that was very interesting Errol, nothing changed on that front.

The "what would you throw in" question doesn't have any rules attached - go for it :D

Good article. Curious to realise the bra burning was a total myth!!

SenecaFalls · 07/09/2018 21:09

Interesting that the Miss America Pageant referenced in that article (which is this weekend, bty,) that began as a bathing beauty pageant has now thrown its swimsuit competition in the trash can. It's still essentially a beauty contest, though, and I would like to see the whole thing go away.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 09/09/2018 13:56

Yes -

It's good that she raised that back in the day a mistake they made was to blame the women too much
Clearly it opened doors and presumably money so it's not hard to see why women did it

The people who are questionable are the men who think it's a good idea to dress young women up in skimpy clothes and then judge them as ornamental objects.
Which happens in different contexts all the time.

"We thought the male left were our brothers [but] discovered that was not really the case when we talked about our own rights."

Twas ever thus.

Glowerglass · 09/09/2018 17:03

High heels.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 09/09/2018 20:46

Agree baby.

Glower- good call!

You do have to throw an object in rather than a concept or an act -
Think I would go with porn that involves real people.
