I'm suffering from consultation fatigue. Have people responded to the Equality Act one. It doesn't actually mention sex, focusing on pregnancy and workplace harassment in the introduction as far as I can see, very worrying. And saw a response on twitter saying have a word with Justine re transphobia of mumsnet. I am just so tired.

MIdgebabe · 12/09/2018 16:21

A bump.

theOtherPamAyres · 13/09/2018 02:49

I looked at the Equalities Act webpage. It is off-putting for individuals.

It calls for evidence, poses some questions and expects to hear from organisations. There is a 3,000 word limit and instructions for how to submit "evidence".

The purpose of the exercise is to give the EHRC more powers to police particular categories of cases. (One of which is transgender rights - although transgender, the term, doesn't feature in the Equality Act, as far as I know).

www.parliament.uk/business/committees/committees-a-z/commons-select/women-and-equalities-committee/news-parliament-2017/enforcing-the-equality-act-launch-17-19/

I'm keen to respond but I have a feeling that my submission will be rejected because, technically, it's not evidence. Advice anyone?

I agree with you theOtherPamAyres regarding the Equality Act Consultation, which closes 8th October. Which is my current task.
Not really sure how to fill it in, although I might try to explain how I, as a woman, am uncomfortable with the extraordinary confusion around how single sex spaces/services are organized, the fact that gender seems to be used instead of sex, the undue burden placed on me as an individual female now unsure as to how to defend my protected characteristic of sex, and the rights afforded to females?
