Joan Collins and toilets

This from the Hollywood actress Joan Collins in the current 'Spectator" print version:-

"Fortunately the Château (Marmont hotel in LA) hasn't yet succumbed to the fad for gender-neutral toilets that almost every institution in the UK has adopted. Where is a girl supposed to apply some lippy and have a quiet gossip nowadays? These temples of privacy and comfort are slowly being stripped away from us ladies and it's time to reclaim them before we are reduced to locking ourselves in the supply cupboard to get some 'me time' or to escape the clutches of a predatory boss".

Go Joan!

I've always had a soft spot for Joan!

ADastardlyThing · 31/08/2018 12:27

G'wan Joan, like to see them try and bully her Grin

ifonlyus · 31/08/2018 12:29

well said !

ToeToToe · 31/08/2018 12:57

Well said Joan. I've always had a soft spot for Joan too!

Joan and the fabulous Frances Barber. Good women who say it like it is.

Stickerladiesoftheworldunite · 31/08/2018 13:00

You had me at the thread title.

Do not mess with Alexis!

ToeToToe · 31/08/2018 13:02

Ooh she's on twitter.

She's just gained a new follower Grin (to add to her other 165K...)

VickyEadie · 31/08/2018 13:11

I wish she hadn't used applying lippy and gossiping as the reasons for needing sex-segregated toilets, though...

Branleuse · 31/08/2018 13:13

Hooray for Joan

ToeToToe · 31/08/2018 13:14

Escaping from the lecherous boss though - I imagine she had a fair share of the #MeToo experiences...

redshoeblueshoe · 31/08/2018 13:15

Yay

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 31/08/2018 13:23

She did indeed. She was raped. She’s had a lot of horrible stuff happen to her. It might be why she doesn’t give a toss what she says now in her later life. Joan uttered my favourite quote ever when asked ( in a very sexist way) about the huge 32 year age gap between her and her, then, new husband and what that might mean for their future together.......
‘Oh well, if he dies, he dies (shrug)’ says Joan. I like her.

AncientLights · 31/08/2018 13:26

I take your point Vicky but it's not a very political stance she's taking. She may well be with most people on this and not realise how far and deep this thing actually is. But glad to have her voicing her view, quite possibly totally unaware of the bile she may be about to have poured down on her beautifully coiffed head as a result.

Well said Joan.

WhereDoWeBeginToCovetClarice · 31/08/2018 13:34

She's a gay icon. It may make some choose which side of the fence to sit - Owen Jones or Joan Collins.

HavingALittleBabyToolshed · 31/08/2018 18:32

I have a lot of time for Joan.
Good on her.

LadybirdsAreBirds · 31/08/2018 18:36

Joan hasn't mentioned piss all over the toilet seat. That's another hazard of mixed-sex toilets

OlennasWimple · 31/08/2018 19:09

Go Joan!

ScienceRoar · 31/08/2018 19:18

@ladybirdsarebirds.
What pristeen ladies loos are you using?
Toilet seats with wee are already a hazard in sex segregated public toilets.
This raises the question: should you wipe and sit, or hover on a public loo?
In some countries, flushable seat covers are provided next to the loo roll.
Or perhaps we should move towards the more hygienic squat toilets?

loveyouradvice · 31/08/2018 21:33

Cannot but love her....

therealposieparker · 31/08/2018 22:00

Ooooo. I always wanted to be Alexis when I was a little girl, not boring Crystal married to blue haired Blake. I like to think the best bits of Alexis were Joan!
When I was a young teen and flew on a huge aeroplane, for the first time, the air hostesses told me stories about celebrities. They all agreed Joan Collins was by far the most lovely kind and polite of them all!!

Love that woman.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 31/08/2018 22:11

I love Joan (and can overlook he political stance)

Yes it is a place where we can put on our lippy and gossip becuase we can be more ourselves and not have to worry about what men think about us or want from us

This is what men just don’t get that spaces that are just for females our guard is down we feel more as ease and probably haven’t had to give it much thought until it has been decided by a few men that was to change

ToeToToe · 01/09/2018 12:05

My dad bought a second hand car that had been owned by Joan Collin's (then) husband Tony Newley at the time he was married to Joan.

I believe I have sat where Joan sat.

Ereshkigal · 01/09/2018 12:15

That's fantastic Grin

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 01/09/2018 12:58

That’s a great quote Grin

Enjoli · 01/09/2018 22:55

I love her!

And her lipsticks (did you know she has a makeup line - find it at M&S) actually are the best. They're all named after characters she's played.
