Daily Mail RICHARD LITTLEJOHN: I've always admired Linda Bellos, and it's outrageous that she should be dragged to court for vowing to defend herself against violent trans activists

There was a transwoman posting on here a while back. She was older, fully-transitioned, said she had surgery in the 70s and was a writer.

I wondered at the time if she was Jan Morris.

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 31/08/2018 16:31

Am I supposed to be alarmed or ashamed?

Embarrassed? With maybe a soupçon of shame and a smidge of conscience?

Needmoresleep · 31/08/2018 16:33

Don't worry. I genuinely admire the some of the more articulate posters on this board, including you. One of the real pleasures of MN.

Perhaps I should now add Littlejohn to my fanclub memberships. (Actually no, he usually writes complete bollocks!)

And it is probably a bad idea to re-read writers I enjoyed as a teenager. All those Russians.....plus Beats and Genet. Sorry Jan, there is no going back.

I've been walking around today saying "Richard Littlejohn!!!!!!?????" periodically! thankfully its Friday and I have much need for Gin

Needmoresleep · 31/08/2018 16:49

Worse than that I have started to recall 70's gender fluidity. Bowie and Bolan were fine, but what about Dave Hill of the Slade, that brummie bloke with long blond hair, or Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel. I did see Wayne County at the Roxy.

Like many things from that era, best forgotten.

BettyDuMonde · 31/08/2018 16:53

I have a great fondness for J(W)ayne!

IAmLurkacus · 31/08/2018 16:56

Fab article, one of the best I’ve read.

Bizarrely the daily mail seem to have our backs here. Three other articles today alone. 1) Drawing attention to a 16 year old f2m who was now detransitioning. 2) article on a lawyer on their 2nd or 3rd sex change 3) an article referred to an offender as ‘a schizophrenic in woman’s clothes and a blue wig’ rather than calling them a woman.

There was a comment on here years Ago that said ‘don’t worry this whole thing is dead in the water once the mail get hold of it’

So I’m feeling a little more positive. Richard if you’re lurking, thank you very much and maybe you could write something on the NSPCC fiasco?

happydappy2 · 31/08/2018 17:06

Richard If yr lurking Please write about girl guides & safeguarding risks

Datun · 31/08/2018 17:10

I wondered at the time if she was Jan Morris.

I remember that, Bore

If I recall, didn't her user name have 'Jan' in it?

speakingwoman · 31/08/2018 17:18

we shouldn't try to out her as she may have posted about other private stuff (views on clothes being darked on, etc). maybe delete the post Datun?

IAmLurkacus · 31/08/2018 18:14

Hahahahaha there’s a mail headline ‘Jan Morris tells mumsnetters off for leaving their washing out overnight?

Wonder what she thinks about fruitshoots, MILs and piercing babies ears?

Anlaf · 31/08/2018 20:19

on the NSPCC fiasco

I hadn't seen this and have not got the full gist yet. Did the NSPCC set up a mumsnet webchat and then bottle it in the face of a very long list of incisive comments about child protection?

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/mumsnet_facebook_live/3343961-Facebook-Live-about-talking-to-kids-about-staying-safe-from-abuse-with-NSPCC

I can imagine the NSPCC expecting naice mums and not the several hundred forensic questions about blind gender affirmation in the thread above.

colouringinpro · 31/08/2018 20:33

Good article.

Datun · 31/08/2018 21:31

speakingwoman

If I recall, she came onto one thread, to talk, and then left. I don't think she's talking about penis beakers or naice ham, to be honest.

therealposieparker · 31/08/2018 22:06

We have to stop this "oh no not the Daily Mail"... seriously.

Whilst most of us have smugly been reading the Guardian on the tube/train/bus they have been selling us down the river. About time we just accepted the Daily Mail on this issue is our friend, like our new best friend who always has nice biscuits.

LassWiADelicateAir · 31/08/2018 22:12

Yes, The Daily Mail didn't think the imprisonment, rape and torture of a 10 year old girl was too trivial to report.

littlbrowndog · 31/08/2018 22:14

Bbc had to be forced into it

littlbrowndog · 31/08/2018 22:16

Nspcc cowards

Prestonsflowers · 31/08/2018 22:45

I’m delurking to say that BoreofWhaybylon once said that it would be the Daily Mail that would push the agenda on the complete bullshit of the TRAs.
Bore was right.
From my own personal point of view.
I arrived at Mumsnet in February this year, on the back of the attack by Tara Woolf at speakers corner.
I had no idea of the agenda that the AGP were pushing
I’ve read so much here and want to thank so many of you for opening my eyes to the reality of what the TRAs want.
It took me a while to work out sex and gender. I know now
So thanks to Datun, R0wantrees, BettyDumond, Little Brown dog, Lang Cleg, Bewilderness and all you others who have changed the way I see the world

BoreOfWhabylon · 31/08/2018 22:57

Ooo, thanks Preston Blush

(On The Archers threads I self-ID as MysticBore™️, on account of my 🔮, utilised in predicting storylines).

Stay delurked, Preston! Welcome aboard.

Datun · 31/08/2018 23:26

Cheers, me dear.

BoreOfWhabylon · 31/08/2018 23:33

Datun I can't remember the poster's name now. But I have a vague recollection that there were in fact two transwomen around the right age, but only one, I think, said she was a writer.

Datun · 31/08/2018 23:39

BoreOfWhabylon

Ah, ok. I got into an exchange with one of them, do you remember? I think I asked something along the lines of did you transition so you would be treated a certain way?

I seem to remember they were polite, happy to engage, but couldn't really explain why exactly they wanted to transition. Just that they did. It made me understand that gender dysphoria can be fairly inexplicable. It just is.

I still think it's to do stereotypes and wanted to be treated in the way you think a stereotypical woman is treated.
Or so you can act in the way you think a stereotypical woman would act.

But, it did go some way to making me accept gender dysphoria as something very real. And definitely distinct from cross dressing/fetish.
