Thanks for letting ordinary women talk about issues that are important to them.
Safeguarding is of vital importance. When systems look like they might impact our ability to keep children protected from harm, mums should be allowed to ask questions, research and form opinions.
Thanks for believing that women should also have freedom of expression.
Justine, the advertisers, and the mods deserve Brew and Cake.
We appreciate you.

Yes same. Thanks so much. It did show such nerve on the David Challenor conversations specifically.

arranfan · 30/08/2018 11:09

MN might be rightly annoyed that it's MN who is being closely monitored over the conversation around contentious issues and not sites that have predominantly male users. I've not visited them but I've seen other posters cite Petrolheads (I'm assuming that is UK) and various international sites.

If you can't discuss safe-guarding concerns on a site for parents then we are, indeed, in the mire. I'm very disappointed that the people who were so active defending free speech in 2012 (Twitter trial; PEN; Index on Censorship etc.) seem to be less interested in intervening when it's to protect the rights of (predominantly) women to speak freely.

Gentlygently · 30/08/2018 17:33

Yes thank you MN. The NSPCC refusing to engage with valid safeguarding concerns is scary, but does show us how brave you are!

Sparctopus · 30/08/2018 17:48

Yes indeed! Flowers Gin

Yes thankyou MN. I was surprised and gratified to see that the "Do you believe women have penises" thread wasn't brought down. Thank you for giving us the space to talk.

tiredandweary · 30/08/2018 20:02

Another one who appreciates Mumsnet. I know that at times you are on the receiving end of people's frustrations - but I also know that you are on the receiving end of threats from some thoroughly unpleasant and threatening people / organisations.
It always amazes me when I look at the comments under an article in the Mail, the Spectator, occasionally the Times - and one recently on Breitbart. That is where I see transphobia and hate speech. But it is Mumsnet that is consistently and repeatedly targeted. Funny that...

So thank you for continuing to centre women and children. Flowers and of course Gin .

I appreciate you MN.
I think we give you a battering from time to time when we are silenced in new ways, however largely you have a lot to be proud of when it comes to facilitating debate about the safety of women and children.

Discussions about safeguarding and self ID can not be halted.
Discussions about female only spaces should not be closed down.
Discussions about sex based oppression cannot be silenced.

I have appreciated Mumsnet for many years through the birth of all of my children, through marriage troubles, years studying as a parent, illness, family crisis, rape and sexual assault.
I have always been proud to be a member of a site that allows women to to discuss intelligently, topics that really matter.

Thank you Mumsnet.

LemonJello · 30/08/2018 20:20

Thank you Mumsnet Flowers

You have an impossible task to do and you do it with humour and good faith.

I’m incredibly heartened that there is still a platform for women, run by women.

I would LOVE to know what you think about the NSPCC debacle, but of course you are too professional to share, which is as it should be.

Voice0fReason · 30/08/2018 23:37

Thank you Mumsnet. I know you get a lot of crap thrown at you for this but you are right to provide a places where we can talk and ask questions.

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 30/08/2018 23:44

Gin and Cake and Flowers for MNHQ and for Justine

Everyone talks about the importance of free speech. Hardly anyone walks the walk. Thank you.

I think the quote " if you have haters you must be doing something right"
applies here. Well done MN!
