Bedroom entitlement and gender

Im just running a benefits calculation, taking into account a potential new job and this question came up with regards to the kids:

Childs Gender
We need to know your child's gender to work out how many bedrooms your household needs. If you don't yet know the gender of an expected child, please select female or male. This might affect your bedroom entitlement.

I wonder what would happen if your child identified as another 'gender' and whether or not people could potentially use that i their favour to get around the bedroom tax rules?

I suspect 'they' think the word sex is rude, and gender is so much more polite.

Fascinating... I get HB and have two same sex children (so only get the equivalent of 2 bedrooms worth though I rent a 3 bed). Atm they're a smidge too young, but it's tempting to see if it's possible for one to "identify" into needing their own room... hmmm......? 🤔

This is something I have wondered about in the past and I do wonder what will happen if someone says that their 2 boys can't share as one identifies as a girl. I looked at my local letting policy, that referred to 'sex' when it came to bedroom policy, but the application asks for 'gender'.

I am not sure about 'bedroom tax' I imagine the actual legislation says 'sex' but if the govt do make changes they really need to make sure that all this is considered. But in the current backdrop of nodebate it can't even be raised.

However where saving money is involved there is little chance in this area they will change 'sex' to 'gender'.

Here's the proper gov.uk LHA benefit calculator.

Couples ( no sex specified, good)

Then 3 age categories of - hurrah for sanity - Females and Males

I doubt they used gender to be right on, whoever wrote the form probably thought it was rude. That’s been going on for years. I remember a teacher of mine (so this is maybe 30 years ago) correcting my project on snails to change sex to gender. I’ve never forgotten it I was so annoyed!

That's particularly odd re snails, which are - as I'm sure you're well aware - hermaphrodites. The first book DD chose to bring home from the school library for me to read to her was 'the life cycle of the snail'. Yay, hermaphrodite sex in the first week of reception, things could only get better!Grin

Yes, that’s right! It said SEX: BOTH next to NAME: SHELLY and so on under my picture of my snail. Still bitter about Mr Spink’s interfering!
