Can't read that; can you link?

About time though. Do you think they will discuss their auto complete consultation form that exudes the principles of democracy?

thecatfromjapan · 28/08/2018 20:29

Siri, show me a woman who consigned her Party to obsolescence before it had even begun ...

BoreOfWhabylon · 28/08/2018 20:31

Hmm... are we to conclude that Sophie doesn't think TWAW then?

Wanderabout · 28/08/2018 20:34

This looks positive. Anything a political leader is doing to encourage or enable actual debate about the GRA is a good thing. And is a darned site more than other parties are doing.

gendercritter · 28/08/2018 20:36

That looks surprisingly positive. Thank you!

Have WEP done that too? I thought it was the work of Challenor for the Greens.

Popchyk · 28/08/2018 20:36

Twitter link

This feels significant. Very deliberate talk of "sex-based oppression".

About time, Sophie.

I have little hope that WEP will back Sophie in this (they will try to bully, harass her and hound her out now that she has nailed her wrongthink colours to the mast), but at least she is standing up and being counted.

This is 2018 and women are too scared to speak up at the Women's Equality Party conference. Let's have a think about that.

Indeed

arranfan · 28/08/2018 20:40

For me, it's too little, too late unless Sophie Walker does something spectacular. They lost my financial support a while back (2018 has been the year of cancelled subscriptions).

That said, I'm on day 3 of this bout of migraine so that is souring my view of things.

thecatfromjapan · 28/08/2018 20:40

It's ridiculous, really. She must be aware that the majority of members are not happy with the GRA because it does pit women's rights and Trans rights in opposition, never mind safeguarding.

The majority of members are natal women - who are being bullied to all hell to hand over their common sense, perception, and cognitive faculties to the TRAs.

And yet she is STILL banging on about 'Our aims are the same.'

One of the biggest issues facing women at the moment, politically, is the fact that they are politically homeless because of the misogyny of identity politics - with the TRAs in the forefront of that. All this at a time when women NEED a political voice - we are the ones bearing the cost of austerity, for a start.

The WEP absolutely fucked up the chance to become a space from which to confront that misogyny and political disenfranchisement.

Hence the need for an emergency debate, behind closed doors, desperately pleading for people to 'play nice' ie. not intimidate on the one side; not to use the literal violence of misgendering on the other.

It's tragic.

PP who said too little too late was right. WEP nailed their colours to the mast when they shat all over Heather. This will end with Sophie being ousted and the WEP being run by a man.

Ereshkigal · 28/08/2018 20:45

This. It is a brave move even though she's still trying to sit on the fence. I predict she will shortly be made aware that that isn't possible with TRAs.

SwearyG · 28/08/2018 20:46

Hmm. The statement talks about trans rights and needs before women’s rights and needs twice. I wonder whether that’s me reading too much into it, but it would have been nice to see the Womens Equality Party put Women first in their statement. I’m a bit sceptical as to whether she actually is gender critical or is trying to be everything to everyone.

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 28/08/2018 20:46

God how did we become so timid.

3rd-wave feminism: "hello please if we're really polite would you mind treating a small privileged number of us almost as if we're men Mr Patriarchy sir? We don't mean mothers or working class women obvs!"

Time to get back to the drawing board I think

Ereshkigal · 28/08/2018 20:46

I totally agree with you thecat.

tiredandweary · 28/08/2018 20:47

About bloody time. Amazing how when 'this never happens' happens, some of the woke start waking up.

I note how she comments abut women being so frightened of speaking out. Given what happened to Heather Brunskill Evans - who let's not forget was raising concerns about the welfare of children - women have every reason to be scared of certain members of the WEP.

Ereshkigal · 28/08/2018 20:48

I am glad they are getting the message that many women have concerns about trans ideology. Harder to gaslight us that everyone agrees that TWAW.

BraveAndStunning · 28/08/2018 20:54

Ah yes oops Ereshkigal, you're right. Was mixing up leading female politicians who shit all over women in favour of males.

Ereshkigal · 28/08/2018 20:58

No worries I thought I'd missed some extra arseholery!

JennyHolzersGhost · 28/08/2018 21:02

“There go the people. I must follow them, for I am their leader.”

ToeToToe · 28/08/2018 21:02

V sceptical here I'm afraid.

Sophie just flip-flops around this all the time - I've seen her hint at this sort of thing in the past, only to then completely capitulate to the trans-activists, and double down on TWAW rhetoric.

After what happened to Heather, I'd be surprised that any woman will feel comfortable expressing anything that veers very far from the TWAW party line.

She's already getting shit for it on Twitter - so I'll believe WEP will put women's sex-based oppressions first when I see it.....

GenderApostate · 28/08/2018 21:09

Has ‘toni-michelle’ condemned Sophie yet on twitter ? 🙄

thecatfromjapan · 28/08/2018 21:09

I'm following the Challenor-Green Party issue and my head is fit to explode.

We desperately need a Party the foregrounds women's needs. Misogyny is out of control and there has to be some means of mounting a high-profile response to that.

WEP effectively stole that position in the political constellation, stole money, energy, organising power, publicity, acknowledgement and placed a travesty, a parody, and a machine for doubling down on women's political suppression in its place.
