A women's fell-running champion who tried to kill a British Athletics official was facing a review into her medals because she was born a man.

Lauren Jeska, 42, stabbed former professional rugby player Ralph Knibbs with a kitchen knife at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham in March.

The Crown Prosecution Service and West Midlands Police both confirmed Jeska was transgender which was a factor in her motive for attacking Mr Knibbs, 51.

It is understood that a review was to take place into Jeska's status as a female athlete because she had been born a man.

It was possible her titles could have been in doubt if UK Athletics ruled that she had had an unfair advantage while competing against women.

Natalie Kearney, 20, will serve her 12 month sentence at HMP Styal in Manchester after the judge ruled that there was less chance of her being picked on in a women's prison.

A court heard that Kearney punched, kicked and bit boyfriend Michael Hollywood, 44, after she admitted cheating on him, the Liverpool Echo reports.

She blamed the attack on emotions brought on by her sex change but was found guilty in her absence.

Kearney, of Wallasey, Merseyside, was given a restraining order and fined after twice assaulting Mr Hollywood in September last year but despite the three-year ban she continued living in his flat.

I host foreign students. I only host girls for various reasons mainly DH and the fact their room is next to my DDs. I collected two students last year, one was obviously a boy, but was wearing eye shadow. He was to share a room with his female peer. This put me in breach of my legal obligations as a host (no mixed sex room sharing - obviously). But I wasn't able to refuse to host him. DH was furious as his no boys rule flagrantly ignored so huffed for the week, I was in an impossible position. Just awkward all round. So this never happens - but it did. Under my own roof!
