Can I ask- AC is currently listed as membership secretary for Coventry Greens (although the address has now changed to a c/o address). Does that mean that personal details of members were all held by AC and that DC may have had access to them, at that house?

CesiraAndEnrico · 26/08/2018 13:22

Without Twitter (and I'm normally quite critical of Twitter) none of this would have come to light.

True

But at the rate twitter (and other SM) is shutting accounts of anti-TRAs, the next time there might only be crickets.

Which rather underlines why one sided moderation and limiting freedom of expression is not a good thing

CesiraAndEnrico · 26/08/2018 13:24

I don't understand this tweet

twitter.com/naledispacelaw/status/1033671811395936261?s=21

Why was AC checking the suitability of candidates for Scottish parliament ? Or have I completely misunderstood ?

happydappy2 · 26/08/2018 13:25

This is worrying that The Times comments have all disappeared-how can that be justified? Just shows something shady is going on.

BettyDuMonde · 26/08/2018 13:25

Twisted - it was Mrs Challoner’s responsibility to data protect the membership lists in her role as membership secretary.

Not sure if her (elected) position was just branch (council ward) or constituency though?

SunsetBeetch · 26/08/2018 13:26

Hope has a new account @GNCmaninpink after getting suspended.

Caroline Lucas has already tweeted about the statement. She doesn't seem to have a problem with it.

Maybe Aimee was on a committee vetting candidates?

LadybirdsAreBirds · 26/08/2018 13:30

Interesting. Thread about response of Scottish Greens' PH

TwistedStitch · 26/08/2018 13:30

So members were unwittingly providing their personal details to a household where a man charged with serious sex offences was living? Because the address was given a sheen of security and respectability by being the official HQ of a political party.

CesiraAndEnrico · 26/08/2018 13:30

Maybe Aimee was on a committee vetting candidates?

So the unvetted did the vetting.

Or AC was vetted to a level where considered suitable to vet (privacy, data issues come into that , no ?) and the Greens vetters knew all about mum & dad's previous brushes with the law and SS ? And were ok with that ?

MorbidMuch · 26/08/2018 13:32

I've still got the Times article open in my phone browser with quite a few comments on there. I've PDFed the page and saved to my phone. It is cutting some of the comments off the bottom, but you can still read a lot of them.

Is there a better way to save them?

CesiraAndEnrico · 26/08/2018 13:42

Before I crank up the stylus, have I got the right Patrick Harvie ?

More from Andy Healey on Twitter.

twitter.com/djandyhealey/status/1033668245511917568

"AC also managed to get me suspended from GP for 8 months which conveniently stopped me from speaking against motions at the last 2 conferences".

"Apart from daring to challenge AC's motions at conference its mostly been about me complaining on twitter about use of 'TERF' by GP officers, incl AC & how this has silenced debate around gender-id & children in particular. My tweets are still all out there".

The Green Party need to investigate how AC was able to get a fellow Green Party member suspended in order to silence them.

BettyDuMonde · 26/08/2018 13:43

Yep, Twisted - that’s about the size of it!

I’m a Labour member, not a Green member, but the party structure and roles are the same and the rules regarding data protection and how membership data is handled are set by law (and taken very seriously by the people I know who do these roles). Membership secretaries are elected, but often by a very small number of voters and sometimes the positions are completely uncontested so it simply comes down to who is willing to do it. The roles are unpaid.

Destinysdaughter · 26/08/2018 13:43

Morbid I don’t know I’m afraid, I’m not v techy! Hopefully someone who is can advise? Glad you’ve got them tho.

From Twitter:

Anyone started a petition yet?? Surely we need a public enquiry on David Challenor, Aimee Challenor and the Green Party's lack of effective safeguarding....

Any takers?

Just got myself up to speed with saving a webpage to pdf for future reference.

www.digitaltrends.com/computing/how-to-save-a-webpage-as-a-pdf/

It gives some instructions for mobile devices too

SlipperySlipper · 26/08/2018 13:46

Convenient too that they waited until the Bank Holiday weekend to release their statement. No one will be available to officially say/do anything much until Tuesday... Hmm

SirVixofVixHall · 26/08/2018 13:49

I have voted Green but am not a member. What members should realise is that combined with terfblocker, AC and parents would have had access to the home address and info of any woman who was a local party member and also on the block list. I’m on that block list, my real name. Had I been a local member they would have then been able to give my address to TAs.

BettyDuMonde · 26/08/2018 13:51

The family has previously been alleged to have been involved in hacking (as part of Anonymous) and in creation of the online ’Terfblocker’ tool, so I wouldn’t personally have thought they were the right people to hold this kind of data? I hope the greens will be having an internal investigation of the matter.

As an aside, I plan to ask some questions of Labour regarding some of the issues that have come up here in regards to safeguarding and ensuring candidates for councils and parliaments are of good standing (seeing as there is no official need for MPs to be DBS checked - which boggles my mind, frankly). Just because something isn’t legally required, doesn’t mean it wouldn’t be best practise to implement it as party policy.

I suspect that the ‘snap’ part of the last general election meant candidates across all parties were less well vetted than usual, and that some unexpecked results led to some less than suitable MPs. I want to know what can be done to minimise this in future, at least for the party I am a member of, but preferably for all.

Decisions are made by whoever is in the room at the time. That’s why women only short lists are so important - we need to be sure that women are in the room.

ZuttZeVootEeVro · 26/08/2018 13:51

The Green Party will sort themselves out once Caroline Lucas steps in. She isn’t an idiot.

If everyone in the green party isn't an idiot - how was this allowed to happen?

Donnyduds · 26/08/2018 13:55

Everyone email the Green Party and Aimee Challenor get her out, mess up their system. Power to the people!

MorbidMuch · 26/08/2018 14:09

Thanks, Time Lady! I've been able to save all that was visible (30 comments) now.

MnerXX · 26/08/2018 14:12

I am a Green Party member (about to give up my membership) but i am voting to re open nominations.

SirVixofVixHall · 26/08/2018 14:15
