Great. Can we also report the Guardian for their constant misogynistic articles?

BlackberryBramble · 24/08/2018 16:10

A chilling effect on free speech indeed.

Stickerladiesoftheworldunite · 24/08/2018 16:20

Yeh, Owen Jones please

Oh and the mad doctor.

Time to untwist those knickers.

LBGT police Uk is not a police operations or investigation unit. It's members comprise gay and lesbian and bi and trans police officers and support staff. They advise Chief Officers. They talk to each other. They keep in contact with local LBGT organisations. They should have their fingers on the pulse - more of that below.

They are quite right to say that (what trans people perceive to be) hate incidents need to be reported to the police.

They must be feeling pretty stupid at the fact that they have no knowledge of any such incidents - despite their contacts and networks and monitoring mechanisms. It's almost as if the hate incidents aren't happening Wink

Let's just wait and see whether those so-called hate incidents ever see the light of day. And if they do, let's see whether investigators need to take any action except to 'note' the concerns of the complainant and give advice.

It's about time that a light was shone on all these mythical transphobic incidents like 'misgendering' and 'being mean'.

As an aside, perhaps LBGT+ Uk can provide the robust evidence to support trans claims about being the most victimised group ever. If any body should know where to lay its hand on the information, then this is it.

Datun · 24/08/2018 16:29

It's rather comforting seeing other people on those Twitter threads being incredulous that they are not reading a spoof account.

Their rank disbelief over the direction all this is taking is reassuring.

LittleLebowski · 24/08/2018 16:36

I think it's great. The more batshit some of the people on the fringe of this (no)debate look, the more people who are not that fussed in the middle will start to get pissed off at being told that a great deal of what passes with the majority as perfectly reasonable comments and questions are considered by some as "hate".

theOtherPamAyres · 24/08/2018 16:39

To give you a good example of the quality of the people behind police twitter accounts. That is to say, lack of quality....

I saw that the social media person for Merseyside Police mentioned that s/he had seen some horrendous abuse aimed at Jean H. S/he asked Jean whether she wanted to report them as misogynistic hate incidents.

I don't suppose that person knew much about the law Grin but their heart was in the right place. Bless Grin

carceralfeminist · 24/08/2018 16:43

Transactivism jumped the shark so long ago, it's now impossible to parody.

Needmoresleep · 24/08/2018 16:44

Does anyone care about schoolgirls from traditional cultural backgounds who have virtually no voice at all. They may, for a host of reasons, be concerned about sharing toilet and changing facilities with the pupil mentioned in the article. Are their views taken on board at all? Or is it assumed that they, like MNettes, lesbians, TERFs, and DM readers, can simply be dismissed as 'haters' so ignored.

Absolutely unacceptable. And with the likely outcome that a marginalised group is further marginalised. At a point when we want integration and equality.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 24/08/2018 16:50

DM are fucking vile about petty much everyone aren't they?

As PP said if we all reported to police every misogynistic article in DM we'd never get anywhere.

misogyny isn't on the hate crime list though, for obvious reasons. Except ? Notts good for them.

RedToothBrush · 24/08/2018 17:19

Good luck to them!

It'd have to go through the CPS.
If, in the unlikely event it did, it'd end up being a very high profile court case.
If it ended up as a court case, the DM would have to defend themselves to the last because of the implications for freedom of the press and the DMs entire existence.
It'd also have huge political ramifications which politicians would have to get up to their necks in.

Bring it on I say.

If they are serious they are absolute muppets.

They aren't serious btw. This is just an attempt at intimidation. Nothing more.

bd67th · 24/08/2018 17:32

Meanwhile, the police "no-crime" rapes wrongly, they don't investigate rapes properly, their rape investigation officers sexually-abuse children, and they pressure victims to retract accusations. And these examples are from just two forces. This institutionalised misogyny is repeated in every police force across the country, but they have time to interview Linda Bellos and Kellie-Jay Keen-Minshull for gender critical words that some trans people didn't like, and have time to take 101 calls from people who don't like a lawful newspaper article.

misogyny isn't on the hate crime list though

It's almost like we live in a world run by men for male convenience.

MrsPear · 24/08/2018 17:34

And now I know what peak trans my mum - being it on. Can you imagine the dm headline if they arrest Sarah Vine?! Fabulous

bd67th · 24/08/2018 17:53

Ah, the old 'lesbians are also a threat to women and girls, so...' argument.

Lesbians aren't, because they don't have a) dicks and b) a massive sense of male sexual entitlement.

More proof that too many TRAs have no idea what women and girls are afraid of or what their daily experiences are like.

Yup, which is why they don't belong in feminism and aren't fit to representative us as women's officers.

ErrolTheDragon · 24/08/2018 18:04

Well, if they want to 'peak trans' 101 call handlers, carry on.

YouCalled · 24/08/2018 18:20

Instead of calling 101 could just forward to twitter.com/wyp_hatecrime?lang=en or nationally

From your picture

"straight trans girls should be fine"

That is some serious mental gymnastics.

FlippinFumin · 24/08/2018 19:09

misogyny isn't on the hate crime list though

Nottinghamshire Police have been trialling it though. So perhaps all crimes of misogny could be reported there? I am sure they will love it for their stats!

I am sure there is a thread about it somewhere.

hackmum · 24/08/2018 20:19

Gender identity is on the list, so we could argue it’s a hate crime against those who identify as women (also known as women).

AngryAttackKittens · 24/08/2018 21:04

So can women call in and say we feel victimized by the DMs Sidebar of Shame when they post yet another set of "look at her, she's gained 2 pounds the fat cow" or "check out this 14 year old girl flaunting her legs" articles?

thebewilderness · 24/08/2018 21:13

What an effective way to intimidate journalists into silence on male violence and police abuse.

TheCountryGirl · 24/08/2018 21:58

I just want to point out the stupid gobshite on Twitter is NOT me!👍🏻

HavingALittleBabyToolshed · 24/08/2018 22:19

Can you still email Crimestoppers?

LoveCompost · 24/08/2018 22:26

Is being victimised by an article the same as being assaulted by a piece of paper ?

SanctimoniousMorph · 24/08/2018 22:36

I think Sarah Vine is safe. A TRA has been trying to report it as a hate crime but apparently the hate crime reporting site doesn't have options for the whole 57 genders and none of the options available adequately describe the TRA so they've given up in a huff:

twitter.com/LGBTpoliceuk/status/1032879426667773953

Maybe they need to report the hate crime website for committing a transphobic hate crime?
