www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6038645/Violent-yob-41-stabbed-man-chest-serve-stretch-womens-prison.html

"A violent criminal who stabbed a man in the liver is to be sent to an all-women's prison after a court heard she intends to undergo gender reassignment treatment.

Liam Walsh was left with serious injuries after the stabbing which damaged his kidney's as well as liver, and left him battling severe psychological demons.

At Minshull Street Crown Court, Manchester, Mottershead, from Stockport, appeared in the dock under the name 'Stephen aka Stephanie' and was jailed for two years and four months for unlawful wounding.

The defendant was referred to as a woman 'undergoing gender reassignment' during the hearing and will serve the sentence at Styal women's prison near Knutsford, Cheshire. "

Apparently Stephen/Stephanie has served a number of stretches in male prisons, but this will be the first time in ladies' prison.

Great Confused please tell me they will won't be sharing a cell or showering facilities with the female prisoners?

heresyandwitchcraft · 15/08/2018 18:50

Quite a scary case.

I believe this individual may have been discussed on a previous thread?

But this is never going to happen is it. This is just scaremongering by those nasty terfs.

My friend worked at Styal for a bit and she says you're hard pressed to find an inmate who hasn't suffered some sort of trauma or abuse. A lot of that would be at the hands of men I would guess. Imagine having a penis owner locked up with you. It doesn't bear thinking about.

CigarsofthePharoahs · 15/08/2018 19:03

This has made me too angry to write a coherent response.
I hope and pray for all the women inmates he has any contact with.

IAmInsignificunt · 15/08/2018 19:33

This never happens.

We really do need to start demonstrating outside prisons, as Anne Ruzylo has said.

Yes. I think we do.

Gncq · 15/08/2018 19:43

Not another one. Fucking hell.

Ereshkigal · 15/08/2018 19:53

Yes. I think we do.

And maybe outside the Tara Hudson court case.

happydappy2 · 15/08/2018 20:00

I don't understand why family members & friends of everyone in that prison aren't protesting outside-this is an inhumane situation.

Yes. There must be a prison within travelling distance of me and I would be there with flask and demonstration appropriate snacks (presumably no cake to avoid the implied faux pas of files inside them).

I read something that shook me to my core about the number of women prisoners who've previously had head trauma. I did read about UK numbers but after a quick search could only find this item about US prisoners readily to hand:
As an example of how common TBIs are among prisoners, in a recent study of TBI among federal prison inmates, a high percentage of women reported a history of TBI, especially multiple concussions, often totaling 10 or more, and these were usually associated with interpersonal violence (Pamela Diamond, PhD, University of Texas-Houston, Personal Communication, October 2007). One subject in this study estimated that she had been hit in the head and often knocked unconscious by her boyfriend nearly every weekend during a three year period prior to entering prison. According to the study interviewers, many of the women seemed to describe the experience of multiple concussions in a matter-of-fact way, as though they were an expected part of life. [From: Traumatic Brain Injury Among Prisoners ]

I have had multiple head traumas (mostly traffic accidents rather than assaults). Had they been from personal assault, I'm ill to think of how apprehensive and vulnerable I'd feel if I had somebody like this prisoner housed with me.

PyeWackets · 15/08/2018 20:17

Stop putting violent men in women's prisons.

I despair, men must hate us to do this to such vulnerable women.

noeffingidea · 15/08/2018 20:38

Stop putting violent men in women's prisons
I've taken the liberty of correcting that post.

JellySlice · 16/08/2018 00:01

A man who committed a crime gets to serve his sentence in a woman's prison because he intends to transition? So he doesn't have a GRC yet? In that case how can he be a woman in the eyes of the law?

This is ridiculous! More, it is obscene!

C0untDucku1a · 16/08/2018 00:07

Youre clearling lying op. This doesnt happen. This must be fake news. We must all put our fingers in our ears and lalalalalallalallalallalal

Stickerladiesoftheworldunite · 16/08/2018 00:17

I've added him to my ever growing list of points to raise with my MP.

I could say "I have grave concerns about putting men in women's prisons, given all the news and stats from the last 2 days. And your pal Miller ignored the experts..."

Or, as I prefer to say:
"This shit is fucked up."

ErrolTheDragon · 16/08/2018 00:25

I wonder if the headline writer deliberately used 'yob' because it's backslang for 'boy' (though the person it's applied to is a bit old for it) ?

hackmum · 16/08/2018 12:57

This is so upsetting. The hard thing is that women in prison are probably one of the most vulnerable groups in society, and there is no one watching out for them. Most of them won't have supportive families who can campaign on their behalf or who know how to approach on their behalf. And they're not glamorous enough for high-profile supposedly left-wing journalists like Laurie Penny or Owen Jones to care about them. Why would you be campaigning for the rights of poor women who are victims of violence, often can't speak English and are addicted to drugs when you could be parading your right-on credentials by championing the rights of middle-class male students to wear lipstick and stand as Labour Party women's officer?

TransplantsArePlants · 16/08/2018 13:35

This literally never happens
