Interesting article from 2015 albeit about US women’s sports, but I think some of the points are worth a look over:

Of particular interest I think is the link between the coverage, and how that generates excitement and interest. Truth be told I find men’s sports a hotbed of toxic masculinity. Superstar sportsmen can get away with rapes, murder, homophobia and all manner of abhorrent crap as long as they perform.
I’d like to see my son engaged in the sports he loves, and not get swept up in some of the toxicity, and I think encouraging including watching women’s leagues might be the way foward.
