Taking the (ginger) biscuit!

Debate on This Morning today about gendered gingerbread (no really) during which Rylan and Gok tried to open up a discussion about gender issues in the wider society.

Random trans woman seemed to be a bit rabbit-in-headlights.

Julia Hartley-Brewer made some good points.

Gok and Rylan's reactions were interesting. I'll post the clip below.

Sorry I don't get it. What did p-er-mange do that was so spectacular?

Yambabe · 08/08/2018 13:26

Apparently gendered their gingerbreads! Gave one a skirt, left one in trousers, gave them stereotyped male and female names.

Thanks OP - I had wanted to watch this but was outnumbered and lost out to Paw Patrol.

Wow those two presenters are BAD! Got Wan just rambled on and on and had the nerve to compare TRA with the fight for equality for women.

Julia did well to show the whole absurdity of it.

Gok!!!

Let me introduce the Genderbread concept* to those who haven't yet come across it:

Why in the gingerbread diagram do they have the M/F/T symbol on the crotch? Shouldn't the T be in the brain if you believe that stuff?

heresyandwitchcraft · 08/08/2018 13:58

I sat through that video very reluctantly. They're gingerbread biscuits. Just eat the cookies and enjoy them, preferably with a hot beverage. How is talking about a skirt on a gingerbread biscuit going to help the feminist cause?

IncrediblySturdyPyjamas · 08/08/2018 14:43

I still don't get it - it is like nobody ever saw a gingerbread in the shape of a pretend someone in a skirt before.

Is this what passes for revolutionary in the dawn of the new age?

My local bakers were doing this in the 80s.

Yes, mine too. I also went to some friends' wedding and rather than cake, they had ginger bread bride and grooms c1993

Mossandclover · 08/08/2018 15:19

I hav3 a full set of mum/dad/girl/boy gingerbread cutters though I always assumed they were dresses not skirts.

ToeToToe · 08/08/2018 17:06

I just ate one of DD's homemade gingerbread shapes (they're shapes - hearts & stars - so naturally gender neutral Smile ) thanks to this thread. It made me really want gingerbread.

And I'm meant to be on a diet. I consider you entirely responsible, OP Wink Grin

I do wonder about This Morning's researchers.

Cooroo · 08/08/2018 17:34

Looking at that Genderbread link, how on earth can you plot your biological sex on 2 sliding scales of male/female? It's complete bollocks.

WomanInBoots · 08/08/2018 17:37

That Genderbread thing is a steaming pile of woo woo.
