That is grim. Still, it'll be fun to see the next article: "Which loo roll is the best?"

boatyardblues · 08/08/2018 12:52

I don’t speak German & the tweets aren’t giving much away.

loopsdefruit · 08/08/2018 12:58

Yeh, can you give a bit more info?

PeakPants · 08/08/2018 12:59

Do you care to translate? Seeing as not many on here are fluent in German...

PeakPants · 08/08/2018 13:25

Okay I have now managed to read the article with the aid of google translate. I don’t get the issue. What am I missing? It’s a review of different alternatives to tampons, including sponges, mooncup and period-proof underwear. I personally don’t see the outrage, OP and Quizteam

Val88888 · 08/08/2018 13:30

ok am i the only one who finds this image disgusting in this context?

Why do you think it’s so disgusting? It’s from a Spanish tomato festival. Until recently, the media pretended that periods consisted of blue-coloured water. People complained that it was an unrealistic depiction which suggested that blood was somehow shameful. I can’t see what is so terrible about it I am afraid. Have seen much much worse.

Val88888 · 08/08/2018 13:36

ok let's promote girls happy bathing in blood because of nice tampons

next time maybe two friends laughing and throwing breast cancer tissue at them self because new bio carrot reduces chance of it

Omgineedanamechange · 08/08/2018 13:37

Hang on, this isn’t some sort of not all women bleed stop being transphobic nonsense is it?

PyeWackets · 08/08/2018 13:37

I find it less offensive than using blue liquid

silentcrow · 08/08/2018 13:41

I thought the article was properly funny, actually (contrary to popular opinion, many Germans have a fine sense of humour). The writer seems converted to both cups (though she can't find a sensible name for them in German), and pants, even though they have the drawback of the embarrassing "what's in the parcel?" when you collect them from customs. I've never seen the "soft tampon" before, but I wouldn't try them after that review!

I think the picture is probably a bit out-of-context tasteless given FAZ is supposed to be a "serious" broadsheet type rather than a screaming red top, but that tweet from YuliAppCom is an overreaction (and indeed, was the thing I thought you were cross about!).

titchy · 08/08/2018 13:46

OP did you really just compare period blood to cancerous tissue? And you think the newspaper has the problem? Wow...

PeakPants · 08/08/2018 13:47

OP, actually a German euphemism for period is Tomatensaft, meaning tomato juice. I think you have misunderstood, possibly owing to the language difference. It’s meant to be funny and a play on words I think.

PeakPants · 08/08/2018 13:52

Oh and you can fuck off with throwing cancer-tissue. Are you serious? La Tomatina is a festival known around the world, so most people seeing that picture will not think they are actually bathing in blood. Instead, they will see the link between that and periods, which yes, do involve somewhat of a bloodbath sometimes as I am sure we all agree (and is something that traditionally we have not been allowed to say because ooh it's so disgusting and offensive and dirty). And then of course, it's a German article, and the tomato-euphemism. Are you the person on twitter who has commented saying you think it's disgusting and disrespectful? If so, way to make yourself look like a loon.

Pythagonal · 08/08/2018 13:59

Why do you think it’s so disgusting? It’s from a Spanish tomato festival.

The first thing I thought when I looked at the picture was what a waste of good tomatoes. 😉

Most of my breast cancer tissue is sitting in Research Labs around the country, where I hope it is doing some good for the rest of the women in the world. I find your quote two friends laughing and throwing breast cancer tissue at them self because new bio carrot reduces chance of it (sic) to be in extremely poor taste and very upsetting.

loopsdefruit · 08/08/2018 15:03

I don't think it's disgusting no, I DO hope they discussed the danger of using sponges as a menstrual hygeine product though, because there are a lot of issues there.

Smellyoulateralligator · 08/08/2018 15:05

I thought they let ones really happy Confused

But what’s the issue OP? 😃

Smellyoulateralligator · 08/08/2018 15:06

Ffs
*They LOOK really happy

WhatTheWatersShowedMe · 08/08/2018 15:07

Wow Val, sand in your vadge much?

LaSquirrel · 08/08/2018 15:48

I am on neutral on this one.
It does appear to be a lighthearted thing (my German, very rusty)

CardsforKittens · 08/08/2018 15:53

I read it. As far as I can tell it's as silentcrow and PeakPants said: a review of menstrual products with an accompanying picture that is perhaps more amusing to German speakers than to Anglophone monoglots. I'm in the mood to be angry right now, but this article didn't do it. In fact, I found the review of the period pants quite helpful.
