And isn't even subtle about it.
Again emphasising the need for single sex spaces and the ability to challenge male bodies people in them

If self ID goes through, any man can access these spaces. Any man. Not talking about transwomen, I’m talking about men.

This is not the case. Even if man signs a false statutory declaration (and he is looking at up to 2 years in jail for that alone) and the statutory declaration is accepted, it gives him no right to access female spaces.

The only right for people born male to access female spaces comes under the Equality Act and applies to individuals with the protected characteristic of "gender reassignment". The man does not have this characteristic.

SarahAr · 09/08/2018 22:17

There is willful[sic] ignorance of the potential issues that self-id will bring.

Not wilful ignorance from me. I have studied law. I have analysed this area of law carefully including statute law, case law, statutory codes of practices and legal opinions.

I have also followed all the issues that have occurred in Ireland in the 2 years since they introduced self-id. Spoiler - no issues have been reported and the Irish government is looking at recognising non-binary people.

JellySlice · 09/08/2018 22:20

Wilful ignorance, or wilful ignoring? Hmm

Popchyk · 09/08/2018 22:29

Sarah, what exactly is "gender reassignment"? Can you give a complete, definitive explanation?

And how do 10 year old girls in toilets know if males have this gender reassignment or not?

And how do you know that this 17 year old perpetrator does not have "gender reassignment"?

RogerAllamsFangirl · 09/08/2018 22:36

SarahAr

The wilful ignorance relates to:

  • Male pattern behaviour and the fact that gender reassignment (whatever that may be) has no effect on it
  • the ability to evidence, let alone prosecute, a false stat dec of "intention to live in acquired gender" (whatever that may mean)
  • the lengths men (not necessarily trans) will go to to get access to women for the purposes of leering, peeping or worse
  • the discomfort women feel in close or private spaces with men
  • the low prosecution or even investigation rates for assault, sexual assault, rape, stalking, indecent exposure etc.

You know, you must know that "if you're attacked you can report it" is both callous and disingenuous.

Your posts on these boards make me want to vomit and weep. There are hundreds more lurkers like me.

How does he not have the characteristic of gender reassignment? It's a completely meaningless phrase.

Yep. Like a one person peaking machine.

starzig · 09/08/2018 23:01

I didn't know Morrison's had started doing unisex toilets.

SonicVersusGynaephobia · 09/08/2018 23:03

This was a remarkably well written article. Well done that journalist/reporter.

seafret · 10/08/2018 03:20

It is dispicably disingenuous to say there is recourse in law in this way SarahAr and to put this on women and CHILDREN to have to be more vigilant and defend themselves just going to the toilet. FFS.

How would you even go about reporting a man that you had suspicions about in a toilet? He would be an anonymous stranger? How would anyone find out who he was so his identity and possible selfID or GRC could be checked? You know damn well this no kind of protection at all.

Women are not stupid however much you need us to be to get away with your bullshit. We see you. All of you.

ChattyLion · 10/08/2018 07:50

Agree Seafret

Ereshkigal · 10/08/2018 08:59

Me too.

And with regards to reporting. How do you report? If police were to issue a description of this person what would they say?

If this man.could potentionally be a woman how can a description be accurately given in a way that won't have the police or victim in trouble for misgendering and the associated nonsense.

sarah has also never explained about how you report a person missing and whether you risk having them.never found because everyone's looking for a little girl or woman

Ineedacupofteadesperately · 10/08/2018 14:53

seafret yes, this is so true

And this is exactly why we have single sex spaces in the first place. Before single sex spaces, fewer women and girls participated in public life. In refugee camps, women ask for single sex loos. There is just so much hard evidence that women want these spaces.

R0wantrees · 10/08/2018 15:26

In refugee camps, women ask for single sex loos.

In some camps women have requested incontinence pads etc, the risk of using toilets that are not same sex being too high risk of sexual assault.

WTFagain · 12/08/2018 12:08

"If someone who appears to be male goes into a female toilet, women are told to assume they are transgender.
Until they reveal themselves as a sex pest at which point we are told to assume they are male."

This a million times. People who take the view that self-ID won't make a difference must be catastrophically naive or simply cool with throwing women and girls under the bus. It puts us in a position where we can only passively wait and hope for the best, like fish in a barrel.

JellySlice · 12/08/2018 16:37

If the runaway train goes on then there will come a time when Until they reveal themselves as a sex pest at which point we are told to assume they are male will be meaningless, because we will be told that all that happened was that a woman flashed her 'clit' - get over it.

TransplantsArePlants · 12/08/2018 18:50

That's such a great response. Thanks UpstartCrow

Looks like the suspicions of MN were correct.

Those poor girls and their families. This is an absolute travesty.

Dolatowski, 18, sexually assaulted the girl in the toilets of Morrisons, Kirkcaldy.

She grabbed the terrified youngster by the face, shoved her into the cubicle and ordered her to remove her trousers.

But instead of being jailed at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court, Dolatowski, who identifies as a woman but was believed by her victim’s family to be a man, was given community payback and tagging orders.

The mum felt “very, very let down” and said: “I don’t have any confidence whatsoever that he will not go out and do something equally as bad or worse.”

The girl had been sledging when the assault occurred on March 4, last year, a month after Dolatowski had filmed a 12-year-old girl on the toilet in another supermarket in Dunfermline.

And there you have it... Sad

PregnantSea · 02/02/2019 11:24

How many other children has he done this to who were too scared to say anything?

Horrible thought.

R0wantrees · 02/02/2019 12:13

It is significant that the perpetrator had long term involvement and support from both social care and mental health services.

The perpetrator was under 18 at the time he assaulted the two young girls so could not have had a GRC.

Were the supportive services required to affirm his gender identity due to the policies influenced by transrights activists lobbying of Social Care and Mental Health (Memorandum of Understanding) ?

In the origninal article, it described how he was with a support worker at the supermarket. Had they been required to support his 'right' to use the women's toilets?

"Defence solicitor Andrew Grieve said his client had been in the social care system from the age of three and had been actively engaging with mental health services"

I hope that those posters who sought to derail this discussion by insinuating that analysis of the article and discussion of the key Safeguarding issues raised was based on 'transphobia' or bigotry reflect.

Two young girls were seriously assaulted.

The young male who assaulted them may well have been innappropriately supported and safeguarding risks inadequately managed due to trans rights advocates influence on policies which hinder appropriate risk management and support of vulnerable LAC and young people.

andyoldlabour · 02/02/2019 12:23

"Why was a 17 year old male in the female toilets anyway?"

It gets worse, here is another article. I assume it is the same person - Katie Dolatowoski, 18 who is a transwoman.
