Thanks to you bloody (fantastic) women getting my dander up with all your knowledge and encouraging people, I've gone and signed myself up for a women for election workshop. I love in Ireland and although I haven't a hope, I'm going to put myself forward for the Seanad (Senate, upper house) election whenever that is called. Many believe that we will have a general and consequent Seanad election in the next 6 months. I've got myself more active on Twitter (tweeted a journo today who was looking for "gender neutral parenting" stories so I reminded her of the sex vs gender difference) and I've registered a domain name to set myself up a website when I am sober get back from holidays.

Oh, and I've set up this name change as I don't want to out my previous posting under other names. Here goes nothing!

Lots of luck. I wonder if we will be able to work out who you are IRL from all the publicity you'll be getting...

BoreOfWhabylon · 07/08/2018 23:19

Good luck Flowers

Yay!

Yes, all the publicity Wink. The election process for the Seanad is pretty bizarre tbh. It's not an election by the citizens of the state. There are various panels though which candidates are nominated and elected by very specific constituencies. There are two (limited) university graduate panels and I'm going to put myself forward on one of those. There are three senators elected from that panel, one who I've heard is unlikely to run again. But there were more than 30 nominees for those three seats at the last election and I don't have any of the name recognition some of those people do. Anyway, it'll be a chance to get some info to a large, if largely disinterested, constituency, and you never know what might happen. If I could take even one vote from an ultra Conservative, mysoginistic incumbent I would feel I have achieved something.

Well done, I'll look out for news on the process (in England but I read a variety of different news online including some Irish newspapers)
