I commented on the Pool 'people who have periods' article...and I've just received a bollocking from Facebook...

MN won't let me post a pic so I'll quote the comment that's led to my slapped wrist below:

"I think it's very much a feminist issue-women have periods. Not all of them - but the ones who don't won't need the tech described in the article. So who is the writer bending over backwards to please?"

This falls short of Facebook community standards, apparently.

Outing, for sure, but I'm past caring at this point.

This is awful! Like others, I’ve reported awful racist comments before, and been told there’s nothing wrong.

387I2 · 08/08/2018 06:18

Maybe the problem was that you mentioned the fact that women are having a recurrent monthly issue? Or maybe that you were upset and a bit angry when you wrote it?

Facebook makes me sick. I've reported loads of really offensive posts, including one which my granddaughter's sleazy ex boyfriend put on when he hacked her account. They were still together at the time, and he put a sex education type drawing of a girl, where all the parts of the body were labelled. He'd drawn an arrow pointing between the legs and written "This is my cunt". It apparently didn't breach FB guidelines....

In my area Facebook have put up loads of adverts about how they don’t do fake news:

I like a PP suggestion of going to the daily mail with a sad face. This will make a very clickable story.

Cartertheunstoppablesexmachine · 08/08/2018 07:41

Meanwhile paedophiles are on FB and that's all OK.

I wonder why people buy into this shit - this culture of fear and hysteria.
But then I remember, women come last and this something men - including those posing as women - just don't get.

vivalafrida · 08/08/2018 08:48

I'm the most live and let live person you could wish to meet.

Just allow me the same courtesy, and don't ask me to lie.

I'm bewildered by all this, truly.

I mean, are we supposed to be pretending that women don't have periods?

Or is it that I said that 'women have periods' and upset transmen?

Has the word 'woman' turned into some sort of hot potato?

Animal abuse, violence against women pages devoted to barely legal photos of children, these are all fine for Facebook.

Pictures of women breastfeeding or saying that women have periods are the literal worst though.

I appreciate it comes down to a computer deciding after enough times to take you down, but let's not pretend that computer wasn't programmed by a human.

Factual, or even not factual but non-threatening comments and photos should not be removed.

NoSquirrels · 08/08/2018 08:57

Yes.

Sad

I started watching the dispatches programme and got as far as the child being beaten by the adult. My Facebook account was deactivated as I was taking a break, after seeing what they "allow" I no longer have an account.
If more people actually left it would maybe make them take notice.

riiiiight · 08/08/2018 09:06

I don't think FB is really a thing for young people, so I imagine FB is on it's way out long term anyway.

vivalafrida · 08/08/2018 10:14

Thanks for the link. I've now learned that saying 'women have periods' is making a political speech.

Who knew?

They use the word "people" to mask what they're actually saying which is "men and women who have periods". Which sounds crazy because it is.

Why can't it just say "women and transmen" but I know why, that highlights transmens' existence. Transmen is not used, not spoken about, let's just use the word "people" and then we can brush transmen under the carpet like always.

Something occured to me on Twitter today. I kind of keep my head down on there with too much controversy, but I tweeted a reply to something which appears to be taking off with retweets and likes, so I think I shall start being on the radar of some TRA types soon.
I usually deliberately try to avoid things in my profile which could draw their attention, which obviously involves noticing what could be seen as 'problematic' by them.
One of the people who liked my post had 'Adult Human Female' as her profile info, and I realized that I clocked that as a phrase which would be considered goady on Twitter.

And then I stopped, stepped back and genuinely had a WTF? moment. Are we really at the stage where the phrase 'Adult human female' is akin to beheading videos and child abuse images? Just wow.

MrWriter · 08/08/2018 11:29

This is nuts, I feel we have stepped into the twilight zone. I reported a photo of a dead child, not related to a news story, just a horrible picture, apparently it didn't breach FB. Crazy.

Mumminmum · 08/08/2018 23:11

I tried to explain to two of my aunts that to some people here in Britain it is considered abusive to say that a woman cannot have a penis and told them about the "everybody who has a cervix needs to get it checked for cancer" advert. They are both in their seventies and are usually mild mannered but they used some words you don't normally use when your mother is around when they heard this. it cheered me up for some reason.

It occurred to me when I read this that while I signed up for twitter last fall to respond to something specific the TRAs had all blocked me because of what I say here on FWR long before I started actually tweeting this summer.
I hope that you have the same good fortune.
