"People Who Oppose Trans Rights Have No Place In Labour," Says The First LGBT Mayoral Adviser

Andy Burnham, Mayr of Greater Manchester, has hired an advisor, Carl Austin-Behan, to help him think of what to do about "the row" over All-Women shortlists. Austin-Behan's solution? Party members who campaign against trans women being fully accepted as women should no longer be allowed in the party.

Austin-Behan described opposition as "Utter rubbish; if people are trans women, then they are women.”

I just had a search to see if the Greater Manchester mayor has a women's officer or advisory panel

Even if it did... it would I'm sure have strong representation by and for trans women.

Popchyk · 07/08/2018 21:45

Anyone else thinking that Jess Bradley was initially going to be on that panel?

And then a last-minute switcheroo was needed.

TimeLady · 07/08/2018 21:46

Yes, Popchyk. That thought occurred to me too.

Ereshkigal · 07/08/2018 21:50

Yes, it's a definite possibility. JB would have been the perfect fit. Huge university city and no one directly representing students who are a large part of this population.

AngryAttackKittens · 07/08/2018 22:09

It's like Labour are trying to actively avoid winning elections...

Popchyk · 07/08/2018 22:10

What's that? Nobody representing students you say?

Enter stage left one mature student at the OU, living in Manchester. Transman by the name of Raf Young, who is on the panel.

Raf gives lots of advice to young people on Quora. This is completely in the public domain by the way.

For example:

Question from someone: What is the minimum age to wear a chest binder, and is 11 too young?

Answer from Raf Young: "No minimum age, the only really relevant thing is having something to bind. I will say though that if an 11 year old is looking at binding, they DEFINITELY should also be looking at puberty blockers to stop any further chest growth".

Nothing to see here, folks. Move along.

Rochdale was the constituency of protected Tory pedo Cyril Smith. Also I think Greater Manchester had many pedos 'successfully' get off the sex offenders register....

Ereshkigal · 07/08/2018 22:12

Wow.

LangCleg · 07/08/2018 22:35

WTAF?

WarmWishes · 07/08/2018 22:40

Just fell down a quora rabbit hole. Scrolled a few questions and found one where he tells a trans woman, breastfeeding their baby would be possible, with a prescription. How?

LassWiADelicateAir · 07/08/2018 22:41

Rochdale was the constituency of protected Tory pedo Cyril Smith

Cyril Smith was a Liberal MP, not a Conservative.

BettyDuMonde · 07/08/2018 22:44

Simon Danczuk, too. Bleurgh.

Gacapa · 07/08/2018 23:01

The LP is now a complete joke. Infested with misogyny, aggression, narcissism and stupidity. It’s a cesspit and to think I was a supporter and member for the best part of 30 years makes me both incredibly sad and angry.

theOtherPamAyres · 08/08/2018 00:00

Which Labour MPs represent a marginal consituency, where a couple of hundred votes switched to their nearest rival would unseat them?

Which Labour prospective parliamentary candidates missed out last time, for the sake of a couple of hundred votes and are hoping to break through next time?

They need to be sent a clear and unambiguous message:

"Not only will I not vote for you but I will actively campaign for your rival. I will tell everyone I know to vote for xxxx and social media is my friend"

(With thanks to @Materialist on another thread.)

Let them do the numbers.

SturdyEarmuffs · 08/08/2018 03:15

Sophie Cook falls into that category...

WhereDoWeBeginToCovetClarice · 08/08/2018 07:26

a Liberal MP, not a Conservative

What a daft mistake. Thanks for correcting. I think I must have had a mental glitch because he is often put in the same sentence as the ring of pedo senior politicians in the Conservatives. My apologies.

annandale · 08/08/2018 07:33

Sorry but which senior members of the Conservative party have been charged or convicted of child abuse?

TerfAndSerf · 08/08/2018 07:36

I don't deny trans people exist.

I don't deny they have rights.

I don't agree they have the right to muscle into my space.

They can get their own.

WhereDoWeBeginToCovetClarice · 08/08/2018 07:48

which senior members of the Conservative party have been charged or convicted of child abuse?

That's the whole point. Every investigation into it is deliberately scuppered and covered up. That's where the Yew tree investigations were heading and then the whole thing was wound down.

kaldefotter · 08/08/2018 07:59

So if someone has somehow, inexplicably, failed to quit the Labour Party yet, despite them becoming a car crash of epic proportions, who should she vote for in the NEC elections? Or rather, which misogynists should she definitely not vote for? Asking for a friend, obvs.

PencilsInSpace · 08/08/2018 08:01

I expect he will be campaigning to lift the suspension of stunning and brave David Taylor then and calling for zero tolerance on those who so cruelly prevented her from standing as women's officer. It's Wednesday ...

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3256772-Guess-how-I-got-suspended-from-the-Labour-Party

I reckon Jess Bradley was probably too busy to join that panel. She probably has more spare time now. I think it would be a wonderful inclusive gesture if she was asked to join.

everyone should be treated as they wish to be treated

hahahahahahahaha

hackmum · 08/08/2018 08:05

Five sensible comments on the article and one moronic one from a man parroting the usual "transwomen are women" line. God, these people are thick, aren't they?

As for Austin-Behan, the first interview he gives after taking up post and he makes comments suggesting that a large number of party members should be expelled. Do they want to win the next election? Or are they deliberately going out of their way to alienate a huge chunk of their own members?

Ereshkigal · 08/08/2018 08:10

Do they want to win the next election? Or are they deliberately going out of their way to alienate a huge chunk of their own members?

Perhaps they just want total control of the Party rather than to be electable.
