The hate crime of Misogyny: A short article about Nottingham Police's pilot

There's a little article by the researchers. Reading between the lines, it is not going well:

In fact, only 6.6% of victims reported incidents of misogyny hate crime to police. This is partly due to factors including the “normalisation” of these incidents in wider society, fear of not being taken seriously and/or fear of victim blaming.

There is one lone woman in the comments section and a lot of huffy men.

Interesting article.

I always start with the premis that it is rude to leer at people, audably confirming the leer is really bad manners. Is that an impossible task for 49% of the populaton to understand?

I love Joe's comment that this proposed change is "misandry plain and simple. It makes your agenda look silly and trivial and down right nasty."

Wonder if he would ever recognise his own hypocrisy there?

Wow the men are really trying their hardest to make out wolf whistling, and even in some cases sexual assault is a compliment, eh? Do they ever compliment each other in such a way? Thought not.

Stuff like that IS so normalized, as its almost an everyday occurrence, especially for younger women. Sexual harassment by men started for me, when I was 11. Fucking 11. But yeah, its totally normal and women/girls should stop complaining about it and men get the same behaviour towards them regularly Hmm Always a few token blokes on articles like that saying they have never harassed any woman, but they have had groups of women groping them and such. Because clearly, women are worse than men.

Police Forces are very good at consulting some of the "protected" characteristics group - particularly BAME and LBGT.

I'm not convinced that they do a similar job when it comes to Women. Until such time as they have better ways of encouraging women to report misogny, then experiments like this will fail.

They are not alone in this. My council, for instance, does not consult women about anything, sees "gender" as the protected characteristic and so consults an LBGT advisory panel on "gender".

Outta sight, outta mind.

But I do mind! (fume, fume)

I wondered about creating a compilation of all the misogynist crimes I could have taken to the police but didn't. I have a fair few and imagine I'm not the only woman who does. Not sure what I'd do with the list though.
