(Victim Focus is the blog by Jessica Eaton, in case anyone doesn't recognise the URL)

And yy to this, she is spot on.

''Feminism is the liberation of women and girls all over the world from the patriarchy and misogyny that continues to harm and oppress them as a class of people. Feminism centres women unflinchingly and unapologetically. Feminism is the conversation about women’s issues in the world; without having to add some tokenistic sentence at the end acknowledging that men also experience some things too. Yah, we know. But we are talking about women right now, so hush.

The problem with saying that we are working towards women becoming equal to men is that it frames men and male cultures as being the optimum culture or the ideal goal that women should reach to become equal.''

Men do seem to see themselves as the default, where the bar is set.

Yep, saw that via FB this morning - really excellent take. The table is very useful too.

Very interesting. It always annoys me when people talk of feminism as equality...you often hear men say Well they wanted equality, when some bad thing befalls women like being punched by a man.

I feel like screaming at them that we ARE equal ffs! And they know NOTHING about feminism.

Reminds me of some of Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s quotes. Here’s one of my favourites:

The demand that Feminism be an "equality for all" movement instead of a women's liberation movement was made by men during the backlash against the gains Feminism had made for women.
We have been losing ground ever since.

True feminists have higher standards than to be 'equal with men'.
Our aim was never to be as rapey/violent, but to be liberated from it.

I so love RBG. I wanna be her when I grow up!
