The report indicates shortcomings in nearly every area of society, from political representation to working conditions. It's pretty depressing stuff

Thanks for posting.

Well I'm sure removing all sex based protection for women will help with that.

LastTrainEast · 04/08/2018 14:57

Yeah, the merging of women's rights into men's rights will at a stroke remove women's rights entirely.

This is a slight problem isn't it? Can't find the EHRC section on that.

But here's their recent statement on the GRA:

Given that the EHRC was established in 2007, then they have been remarkably ineffective with their impact on women. They have a budget this year of 19.47 million! I suspect they haven't thought for a spilt second about competing rights.

Ereshkigal · 04/08/2018 16:04

They blither on in their submission to the Scottish consultation about "barriers" to getting a GRC. They don't appear to consider whether putting up barriers for some people might be necessary.

I have no confidence they are considering or representing women's rights fairly in this conflict.

Ereshkigal · 04/08/2018 16:08

They're obviously fans of the pomo.

UpstartCrow · 04/08/2018 16:08

I think they know exactly what they are doing. This is the easy way to get rid of women's rights and appear progressive.

Ereshkigal · 04/08/2018 16:10

They're not sold completely on non binary rights, which surprised me. They did quote a statistic in the Scottish response where 43% of non binary people had been made fun of in public for being non binary. That's oppression for you.

OrchidInTheSun · 04/08/2018 16:55

They mention transwomen's rights a couple of times in the report, particularly with regard to prisons (but don't address the safety of women when incarcerated with transwomen) and in healthcare where they say that transpeople should get gametes frozen on the NHS. The fact that this is the first of 2 recommendations- the second being equality of access to IVF - pisses me off enormously
