Outstanding Economist Article

Long term lurker on these boards but have rarely felt able to contribute anything coherent beyond what I've already read. However I've spent hours pouring through discussions, reading links and generally finding the debate on the gendar and trans rights to be both fascinating and terrifying for the future of women, our identity and safety now and in the future.

Came across this article today in The Economist today which for me summed up the legitimate concerns that women face in the face of the trans agenda.

I'm close to reaching the point of sharing my views on social media, and have had a fascinating chat with my dad who totally got my concerns so I'm almost there. I'm on the app so not sure if the link is clicky - apologies if not. The Economist is running a whole series on this issue at the moment but this is the best article I've seen to date.

Hi, Thanks for linking. It has been mentioned in another thread, but it's worth seeing it again for those who are new to the issues.

I have also started sharing my Views IRL and it's been really interesting seeing who I'm pushing at an open door with; and who is really uneasy about seeming to be bigoted. So many think that women have won the equality war; or they can't see the link between the aggressive trans-agenda and men's aggression towards women

Yep.

This is another Economist article, written by a transwoman teacher, arguing against Self-Id of gender

Please post again OP you write really well.

Frankenterfer · 01/08/2018 06:15

Thanks for the link. I've shared it on Facebook. Will see if this one miraculously disappears, too 🙄

A good article. Thank you for linking.

That article is fantastic. It sums up so many of the issues that trouble me about trans-activism. She gives many real world examples of how much trans rights are now becoming a matter of eroding women's rights rather than expanding trans rights generally. As she says, why focus on eroding female-only spaces if this movement is about progressive liberal values? Why not focus on male-only privilege, since men are still the more powerful gender, or lobby the medical profession for better services?

And this quote is just priceless:

'And Green Party Women, an internal campaign group of the British Green Party, confirmed last year that its preferred designation for the constituency it represented was not, in fact, “women” but “non-men”.'

I mean, what the ever-loving fuck does that mean? Now women are simply 'non-men'? So what does that make men? 'Non-women'? Oh no, sorry, I forgot! Of course men are still men. It's only women who have to be questioned and forced to rename ourselves...

Frankenterfer - have FB deleted your previous posts? That's absolutely shocking! Under what justification I wonder - 'breaching their community standards' which deem things like nipples unacceptable but violent videos not so, probably.

BirthCanal - thank you! I will be back that's for sure Smile

InionEile that part really struck me too and made me really pissed off. Total erasure of what it means to be a woman, but men just carry on regardless, their lives unaffected, as always.

Good on the Economist for commissioning a whole series on this. I am keen to see what else they come out with.

@tothefareast80 yes have had a link to a BBC article on trans issues removed before, I didn't get any communication from them though. I believe one of my Facebook friends reported it.
