Changing gender for cheaper car insurance

There is an article in the Times today about a Canadian man who changed gender for cheaper car insurance

But obviously that never happens, men claiming to be a woman for a reason other than because they were born one

Why does no one really seem to care about gender misappropriation, when cultural misappropriation is such a massive deal?

Personally I love that this has happened. Along with the Argentinian guy who has changed gender to retire earlier. I mean politicians jumping on the bandwagon, or cosying up to wealthy sponsors. And no one actually thinks through WHAT WILL THIS MEAN? So now they are getting it handed to them on a plate. They may not care about women's feelings when presented with a naked man in the changing room at the gym but insurers care. This is the sort of thing that they actually will take notice of. Let's have more please. Smile

Iused2BanOptimist · 31/07/2018 09:58

But you're right about misappropriation Terrorbird.

LaSquirrel · 31/07/2018 10:00

I thought that in the UK, years ago, they changed the car insurance to make WOMEN SUBSIDISE MEN, because:equality bullshit.

Prior to that, women in the UK got cheaper car insurance, because they, in the majority, didn't drive like dickheads and crash all the time.

Iused2BanOptimist · 31/07/2018 10:05

That is true LaSquirrel. This guy is in Canada. I will look for the link. Equality versus hard statistics. In the EU equality wins. Maybe it will change after Brexit?Grin

LaSquirrel · 31/07/2018 10:08

That was yet another time that so-called 'equality' worked against women. It sucks, particularly as we still earn less, then had to subsidise male drivers.

Hopefully the link works.

SquirrelChaser · 31/07/2018 10:42

It wouldn’t happen here. Following the EU directive which prevents offering cheaper insurance based on sex alone, insurance companies now ignore sex and assess risk on other factors, such as type of car, size of engine, occupation, previous claims. Turns out, based on all this, men still end up with higher premiums because men drive like men.

Iused2BanOptimist · 31/07/2018 10:48

No, car insurance won't happen here but cases like these serve to highlight what a nonsense self ID is.
Also I'm not up to date with different life insurance rates for men and women - will they have to accept chosen gender?

hackmum · 31/07/2018 10:49

I wonder if more men will follow suit in Canada. It makes sense, doesn't it? I always hope with these things that eventually they will reach a tipping point of ridiculousness (eg when more than half the members of a women's football team were born male), but it hasn't happened yet.

Smellyoulateralligator · 31/07/2018 11:22

Critics quoted by the CBC did not explain how exactly it harmed gender-confused individuals, however, nor did they address the fact that David’s stunt was only possible thanks to rules that deny gender has any objective, externally-verifiable standard

Smellyoulateralligator · 31/07/2018 11:23

Sorry posted too soon. I quite liked that bit...

Smellyoulateralligator · 31/07/2018 11:26

Although I’ve just checked that site out 😬

CaitlynsCat · 31/07/2018 11:40

Yes the bigger point is apparently ok in the UK/EU to discriminate against young people and charge them thousands of pounds purely because they are young, but not to charge men more because statistically they are dangerous lunatics who drive like cunts until the age of at least 25, because oh no won't someone think of the poor menz.

Fucking arseholes.

Iused2BanOptimist · 31/07/2018 12:03

Hackmum absolutely. But each case brings the tipping point nearer, making a nonsense of law. I see these men as doing a Woman Friday, raising public awareness for us.

bd67th · 31/07/2018 19:03

@LaSquirrel That was yet another time that so-called 'equality' worked against women. It sucks, particularly as we still earn less, then had to subsidise male drivers.

The same ruling forces pensions to pay out the same for men and women, which benefits women compared to how it was before. There is a silver lining to that particular cloud.

YourVagesty · 31/07/2018 20:11

Personally, I hope to see a wave of stunts like this. I think it's very complementary to the Man Friday efforts.

Iused2BanOptimist · 31/07/2018 20:18
