Tavistock GIC doing an information session for GPs. Would be interesting to know what it contains.

It says any HCPs.

2rebecca · 30/07/2018 09:02

I'm in Scotland so won't be heading down to Hammersmith, esp as health is devolved.

Melamin · 30/07/2018 09:56

Does Scotland have its own GICs?

Roseformeplease · 30/07/2018 09:57

Sandyford is the place everyone is referred to in Scotland. It is in Glasgow.

2rebecca · 30/07/2018 17:12

I also had a patient requesting referral to the Chalmers Institute in Edinburgh because they'd fallen out with Sandyford but most go to Sandyford.

foxyliz26 · 30/07/2018 17:29

I very much doubt any GP /HCP will admit on here to holding GC views , there are many solicitors/legal beagle lurking on this site
on top of Many trans activists ,

anyone holding those views couldn't work for the NHS, and would be in breach of contract

OldCrone · 30/07/2018 17:40

foxyliz26
Are you suggesting that people who acknowledge that it is not possible to change sex should not work for the NHS?

AncientLights · 30/07/2018 17:51

MN is full of GC health care profs. I'm no longer in the NHS but if I were still, I'd be here just the same. I was a midwife and nothing but nothing could ever convince me that biological sex doesn't exist or is irrelevant. Nor would I be shy about fighting this nonsense at work if it came up.

Wanderabout · 30/07/2018 17:54

foxyliz26 what a ridiculous statement.

2rebecca · 30/07/2018 17:56

Nonsense. I'm a GP, most doctors believe in biology. You can believe some people have severe gender dysphoria and are happy trying to look like and live as the other sex without believing they actually turn in to the other sex or have never been their birth sex.
You can also believe that some men are wanting to identify as women for predatory reasons.
Sex is real. Gender is a social construct.
There is a huge shortage of gPs. I don't see anyone kicking me out of my job for saying that, especially when all my partners agree with me.
The wonderful Dr Harrup would be looking after all of you.

drspouse · 30/07/2018 18:46

I don't think "Doctor" Harrup believes people can change sex, he just also believes women should be kept under the thumb. Preferably his thumb.

RadicalFern · 31/07/2018 22:07

Yes, even Dr Misogyny believes that transwomen don’t become female, he just believes they are women.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to go and untangle my brain.

terfinginthevoid · 31/07/2018 22:48

I'm a GP, gender critical on Twitter in my real name. I don't think anyone will be struck off for saying that men can't actually become women. As its medical fact.

Wanderabout · 31/07/2018 23:14

lol terfing.

I find it fascinating and chilling that there are people here now suggesting people in certain roles should fear posting here because of 'lurkers'.

This website's beauty of being anonymous is because (mostly) females use it for a wide range of connections with other (mostly) females, to talk about a wide range of issues. Be it parking, breast feeding, style and beauty, love island, bridezillas, the weather, prams (hi IW!), feminism, domestic violence, Trump, Brexit and sporn!

It has a wide pool of class, ethnicity, country, sex, experience, and has enabled people to discuss, learn, debate, change their mind or strengthen their opinion, without being held down by people saying 'but you're Ms X from down my street, you can't think like that'.

From the look of other social media right now, it's one of the only places that healthy debate is welcomed, and supported, be it where the fuck you should park, to whether gender is the same as biological sex.

Posters might be GPs, HCPs, lawyers, engineers, cleaners, HCAs, admin assistants, carers, SAHMs, surgeons, shop assistants, builders, or hairy-handed truckers. You don't really know unless they tell you (and even then, who's to know). You have no idea who's posting here.

And the idea that 'legal beagles' could come down hard on GPs and HCPs for stating material fact.

'Breach of contract' for stating biological facts? ie anyone working in med schools right now need to pack up their bags and walk away from Mumsnet, as they may be teaching 'biological facts' and at risk of being sued!

IAmSproutycus · 01/08/2018 11:47

I am openly gender critical in my professional own name (if that makes sense), and I work for the NHS. Had a helpful conversation with my head of department last week about the very same to seek reassurance that my views would be supported from any backlash. Left feeling reassured. I have been challenging some incorrect information at work and was glad to feel supported by my own management structure.
