Surrogacy

I know it's none of my business, but I just wanted to know if I am alone with these views.

A gay couple I know are expected a baby born via surrogate in a couple of months. I have nothing against gay couples in general or gay couples adopting children and becoming parents....you don't need a female parent for a happy life. BUT the thought of surrogacy doesn't sit well with me, it feels like it's using women's bodies as chattel. I can almost understand if a close friend or family member offers to be a surrogate for a childless couple (gay, straight, lesbian, whatever), but in this instance, the woman lives in a relatively poor country and it just doesn't seem right. Pregnancy can be dangerous for woman, after all.

Also, the couple in question are both in their early 50s. This seems quite old to me, as the child will be on their own with no siblings, with two relatively old parents.

IDK maybe I am being unreasonable, but I'm finding it hard to fake being happy for them when the idea almost revolts me.

Actually I think you are entirely right, it’s kind of like the same idea of letting poor people sell their kidneys. It leads to exploitation, and I think the ethics of the situation should lie with the medical profession to refuse to go along with it.

If it’s voluntary and a woman chooses to do it without money changing hands for a dear friend or family member I think it’s a deeply moving thing for them to do.

I am also reminded of the Australian couple who paid a surrogate which produced twins and one had downs and they wanted to keep the able bodied one, and reject the downs baby.

The creation of life should never be transactional in this fashion.

I've never been comfortable with surrogacy at all. But then, I don't approve of people buying designer puppies, either.

It is revolting. Men deliberately separating a baby from its mum at birth because they feel entitled to be parents. Rich people exploiting a poorer woman, putting her physical and mental health at risk because they feel entitled to be parents.
Older people buying a baby because they were too self centred to have a baby when they had the youth and energy to give that to a child.
Nothing good about it.
It's creepy and stomach churning.
Perhaps they tried and we're turned down for adoption for good reason?

Just a heads up, this thread is being referenced on twitter by TRAs as evidence of homophobia.

OP has only 2 posts, including this thread.

Recommend grey rock people.

Tension thanks for the heads up.

Surrogacy is the oldest form of human trafficking. Even older than slavery.

PeakPants · 29/07/2018 21:31

It’s a troll....

thebewilderness · 29/07/2018 22:06

Maybe you should try it out on AIBU.
You will get the reception you deserve there.

Interesting, OP.

Tell us more about how you feel?

Any views on the recent scandal involving a trans NUS official and allegations of public indecent exposure of phallic genitalia for sexual gratification and thrills?
