Horrible news story - acid attack on 3 year old

So, the horrible news story about an acid attack on a three year old child. I can't be the only one who thought his dad or step-dad would be behind it? How sad is that? My assumption when I first heard about the story was that the dad would be punishing the mother. I know, I know - not all men etc but ffs!

Lichie, neither of those scenarios are the case in this crime but I do hear you and I agree it has become everyones problem.

I don't think it is a race problem, just like I don't think its a male problem. The stats for these sort of attacks support neither. It's everyone's problem.

Men hurting their children to get at the mother is a male problem. (Well it’s a female and child problem as they are the ones that actually suffer) The fact he chose acid to do it is another issue, but men hurting children is a thing.

It was in the Times today - she was being ‘punished’ for appearing on the TV without a veil. All you ‘racist’ shouting people defending this?

I haven't been following this horrific case (TRAs favourite adjective, but accurate in this case unlike their usage), but it is very easy to get stuff that will cause serious damage. Oven cleaner will do it. I've been spending womanly weekends togged up in goggles, breathing masks & gauntlets stripping paint with Nitromors. Swallowing that=multi-organ failure.

My immediate thought was that the Father had accidentally caught the child with acid rather than the Mother.

Of course, this type of "revenge" crime is never acceptable but somehow it makes it easier to digest if I imagine that no one actually intended to hurt an innocent child.

it sounds like this was a man who was angry that 'his' wife had escaped his control, so he punished her by hurting their child
if you think that reaction is limited to any particular race you are very naive
it's culture, patriarchal culture, that varies slightly in it's expression from one social group to another, and fundamentally is about men controlling women

I googled this case and the article I read referred to another non-muslim ethnic group. Does anyone know for sure? Please don't use this horrible case to inflame racism

It's been "confirmed" (as accurate as media confirmation can be I guess) that there are 5 men involved.

3 Slovakian, 1 Afghan and the father who, speculation suggests, is also Afghan.

The entire justice system needs to be rebuilt with the reality of male pattern violence and the near-certainty of repeat offending in mind.
