Police release 999 call Stephen Searle made after murdering his wife (

He was found guilty - www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-suffolk-44861508

Is this kind of thing normal in these cases - to release stuff like that? I just feel it's a bit distasteful for it to be on Twitter for people to laugh at.

Also Bill Mountford from UKIP's comments - (from the BBC article) -
*Following the verdict, former politician Bill Mountford told BBC Suffolk he still considered Searle "a friend", adding "these things happen".

Mr Mountford, who was leader of UKIP at Suffolk County Council when Searle was a councillor, said: "I still regard Steve as fundamentally a decent man who has found himself in circumstances beyond his control.

"I'm not condoning it in any way but I was very, very sad to hear of Steve's conviction.

"I'm well aware domestic disputes can get out of hand but I feel equally sorry for both Steve and his now deceased wife."*

I heard it last week and it is utterly chilling.

placemats · 24/07/2018 11:37

'I'm not violent.'

I hate to break the bad news to you, Mr Searle, but you are most certainly a violent man.

backaftera2yearbreak · 24/07/2018 11:38

“I’m not violent”

🙄

BrazzleDazzleDay · 24/07/2018 11:40

In the US its pretty common to have 911 transcripts/calls released. In the UK, nah not common at all.

CryptoFascist · 24/07/2018 11:41

I see that he tried to crack a few jokes, what a nice guy.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 24/07/2018 11:47

Jaw dropping.

FloralBunting · 24/07/2018 11:53

The casual, friendly tone is remarkable.

The whole blokey, "It's a fair cop, guv" demeanour. You have just extinguished the life of another human being, one who you had vowed to love and cherish. All treated with a shrug and a wink.

Quite right to release it, that callous disregard should be public knowledge should he ever attempt to claim anything else.

Sevendown · 24/07/2018 12:00

And he’ll be out in a few years.

FruitOnAPlatter · 24/07/2018 12:13

'you know, never mind'

Jesus fucking Christ.

I tell you what, those 999 operatives are fantastic - the self control, the absolute separation you must have to have to be on the other side of that call and not let anything come through in your voice.

HotRocker · 24/07/2018 12:42

I heard it last week on 6 music radio news. Utterly chilling, what an unfathomably awful man. That poor woman, and her family, and domestic dispute gone wrong? It has echoes of Jane Fae’s domestic violence gone wrong. As if murdering someone by your own hands could have been a thing that went wrong. What, was he only intending to hurt her a bit, give her a bit of a scare? Murder is the logical conclusion when you systematically and intentionally hurt someone. Sick!

bleedingbanshee · 24/07/2018 12:48

And conveniently she isn't even around to tell her side of the story. 'These things happen'?! He was shagging his son's girlfriend, the mother of his grandchild, he wan't a good man. He's a total utter fucking bastard of a cunt. Makes me sick.

Seedso · 24/07/2018 12:52

Jaw dropping, as said upthread. Am stunned. Stunned.

weddingringnamechange · 24/07/2018 12:54

@bleedingbanshee he's a vile man but I though she was having the affair with the son's girlfriend not him?

ReggaetonLente · 24/07/2018 12:56

No, it was him. She found out and he killed her.

WinnieTheW0rm · 24/07/2018 12:58

Yes, ther's precedent for this kind of release - I'll see if I can find the details, but it's happened more than once on conviction of parents murdering their DC.

Why I'm not sure about is why it is done. What does it really add to the crime report, or how does it serve the prevention of further crime?

Bowlofbabelfish · 24/07/2018 12:58

these things happen?!?

Good god. Dropping a plate and breaking it happens, not murdering your wife.

Horrific.

reallybadidea · 24/07/2018 13:03

@bleedingbanshee he's a vile man but I though she was having the affair with the son's girlfriend not him?

Why would you not Google a thing like this before posting?

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 24/07/2018 13:15

"I feel equally sorry for both Steve and his now deceased wife."
What, equally sorry for the woman who was violently killed by her husband, and for the husband who violently killed his wife? Really?

LinoleumBlownapart · 24/07/2018 13:16

I'm well aware domestic disputes can get out of hand Out of hand is saying things you don't mean or shouting and screaming, not killing someone!!! This statement normalises domestic violence and that's never OK, but worse that this came out of the mouth of a politician.

QuarksandLeptons · 24/07/2018 13:52

Despicable, violent murderer. Absolute danger to women. There’s no way he should be free to harm again We should keep an eye on this and make sure he doesn’t wheedle his way out of prison any time soon.

Also, Bill Mountford is excusing and justifying murder and is adding to a culture of violence against women.

OlennasWimple · 24/07/2018 14:03

These sorts of things just happen:

  • knocking over a glass of water on the table
  • tripping over and falling down
  • putting an expensive garment into the washing machine on too hot a cycle and it shrinks
  • getting the wheel of a bike caught, leading to a crash

Murdering your wife is not one of these things

Angry

And shame on Bill Mountford for his nasty, misogynistic victim blaming attempt at minimising what happened

Kenworthington · 24/07/2018 14:08

Holy fuck. That transcript is horrific

enjoyingscience · 24/07/2018 14:13

It's terrifying. What a complete monster to feel so little.

RIP Anne.

ErictheGuineaPig · 24/07/2018 14:14

Unbelievable. 'Hello buddies'? What the fuck?! I'm so glad they released that, it really shows the evil bastard for what he is.

MoltenLasagne · 24/07/2018 14:19

Luke and Ryan Hart, whose father murdered their mother and sister, have spoken out against this saying how irresponsible it is for people to say it was a tragedy when it was Stephen's choice to murder his wife.

Also, he very much must have intended to kill her - a person passes out from strangulation after 10-15 seconds, it takes 2-3 minutes of continuous pressure to insure blood flow is reduced sufficiently to cause death. That's a very fucking long time for something to "just happen".
