Just posting to say that I find this so worrying, and to say that I would like to raise awareness that there are very real mental health conditions that manifest as alters or parts of the identity that are different ages and even sex. These include Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID), formerly Multiple Personality Disorder, and other Dissociative Disorders, in the DSM etc) but that this kind of adult baby role play is not a safe way to help or treat sufferers, or anyone feeling these kind of feelings, nor are the 'practioners' likely to be safe in my opinion.
I do not claim to know the motivations or mental health of people using this service promoted by the vile Neville Southall.
DID and similar disorders are almost aways caused by sustained trauma in early childhood (sexual and psychological abuse) and usually involves a significant degree of parental neglect and/or lack of safe and reliable caregivers, and (to be brief) the overwhlemed and damaged child mind copes by splitting off the trauma into other selves (parts) in order to survive the overwhelming abuse and state of fear and confusion. Some say narcissim develops in a somewhat similar way, but the resulting person is fragmented into less and different parts.
It is a very real, serious and under diagnosed MH condition, especially in men.
There are many women who are diagnosed with it as a result of ritual sexual abuse, and it is argued that symptoms may be more noticable in women than men for reasons of different behavioural standards and expectations, and for reasons of women being more likely to be seen as unbalanced and mentally unwell, plus women tendng to express distress by acting inwardly or to themselves rather then outwardly (and where male violence or acting out is 'normal') etc.
Diagnosis or recognition of this type of disorder is not a licence to abuse or otherwise behave badly to oneself or others but sufferers of this type of condition (it is not a fetish even if it may appear that way or 'become' one) are really very mentally unwell (some parts can be more stable than others) whether they recognise it or not.
Conditions like this need greater recognition, diagnosis and compassionate and skilled longterm treatment, and this will not include reckless validating and normalising of harmful or destructive symptoms or behaviours, but of unpicking them carefully and trying to restore mental health and safe healthy norms and boundaries.
Tragically and horrifically, as we know ony too well, some people who are abused as children do come to identify with their abusers, and may go on to commit abuse. And this does seem to be more common in males.
Diagnosis and treatment of such MH disorders of identity, the self and personality etc are vital to prevent the perpetuation of sexual and psychological abuse in future generations and to keep children, women and men safe from harm. This is why I think awareness of such conditions and their causes is a feminist issue. Thank you for reading.
