I saw a statement from WPUK,about this yesterday. Looks like fb took them down for a bit after multiple reports against them saying they were being transphobic, etc.

Indierockandroll · 21/07/2018 07:16

Yes it was all over Twitter as FB had censored posts linking to WPUK for not meeting 'community standards.' I think it was due to a large volume of idiots reporting WPUK out of spite.

I want this highligted in mainstream media, as Telegraph has picked up, to highlight this censorship without reason or explanation.

I want to see a statement of apology from FB but I guess hell will freeze over first.

Another excellent mainstream article. Onwards and upwards!

TimeLady · 21/07/2018 07:21

and, most recently, two bomb threats which are still being investigated by police.

TWO bomb threats? Where/when was the second one?

Indierockandroll · 21/07/2018 07:25

Thanks for picking that up TimeLady

Clicky link (hopefully):

Great article. Raises some important wider questions about the role and unchecked level of interest of companies like Facebook in democracy too

Indierockandroll · 21/07/2018 07:41

Ah yes the clicky link, thanks R0wan!

And for always making it easy to research tories by adding related links and bringing the subject matter together in one place.

Research stories though researching tories might not be a bad idea either.....

good article, thanks for signposting it

don't know how their website works, but when I browse the UK news it's the top article. I hope that's what everyone sees and not just me.

people need to understand what is going on here.

SPOFS · 21/07/2018 07:46

The thing is, I feel like the majority of Telegraph readers are probably already gender critical. So whilst it's a good article, it's not the audience we should be targeting. Ideally, we need to get our story into the sources that young women are reading, which is probably never gonna happen. Sad

Indierockandroll · 21/07/2018 07:47

I couldn't find it on their Twitter feed but hoping they add it.

Just saw this on twitter:

mobile.twitter.com/hear_woman/status/1020557836718395392

If someone from that charity has been complicit in targeted harassment of a campaign group during an open political discussion on the GRA that is disturbing on a number of levels.

ReluctantCamper · 21/07/2018 07:51

the thing is SPOFS, this isn't about genderism vs gender critical any more. it's about people using violence and social engineering techniques to censor perfectly valid political opinions.

ReluctantCamper · 21/07/2018 07:54

fucking hell wanderabout, just followed your twitter link

if that woman was really involved in this I hope it comes to light

Bowlofbabelfish · 21/07/2018 07:55

Good on the telegraph. Yes I imagine the majority of their readership is fairly gender critical, but a balanced article is a good thing.

Wanderabout - now that's disturbing and I also hope this comes out in the wash on Twitter today.

I'd like to see it in Grazia. But AFAIK Gaby Hinsliff hasn't woken up to the GC view yet. She writes for the Guardian as well

ReluctantCamper · 21/07/2018 08:07

jeez louise pratchet, those people have literally no idea about what is or isn't appropriate do they? it's like they need to go back to human socialisation school.

hassling someone's business associates because they hold a different opinion to you is seriously fucking weird.

Pratchet · 21/07/2018 08:10

Gaby H hasn't at all, I think: still at the stage of 'with a little more education and understanding, feminists will get it'.

Whole lot of bonkers on that feed.

FermatsTheorem · 21/07/2018 08:16

Transplants, Hinscliff wrote that dreadful article in the wake of the Cologne attacks (IIRC the first op ed piece the Guardian had deigned to write on the subject, a mere two weeks later, when they realised it wasn't simply going to go away) in which she wittering on about the fancy mobile phones the victims owned compared with the poverty of the perpetrators.

I wouldn't hold your breath for her to come round to the feminist view on anything. Not a chance in hell Grazia would cover this.

Wanderabout · 21/07/2018 08:16

Gaby H wrote a piece for the Pool which talked about how in time 'older' women would get used to feeling erased. The implication seemed to be that this would be a good and progressive development.

No analysis or mention of the fact that polls show all age groups are opposed to Self-ID.

Bowlofbabelfish · 21/07/2018 08:17

pratchet

It's the really extreme, really dangerous form of content that attracts the most highly engaged people on the platform,

This is widespread across social media platforms. It’s why the skewing of news balance was such a scandal after the last US election. The algorithms that put content higher up the list of what you see first dont work on any kind of notion of ‘quality’ or ‘validated and fact checked’ or ‘currently relevant.’ They work on this factor of ‘how many very engaged people will get happy/enraged and comment.’

DH showed me a really good article in this ages back and I can’t find it, but that was the gist. So stuff that’s extreme stays, and pushes out the quality/balance.

When you add that to the inherent misogyny that seems prevalent in most tech provider’s platforms its a toxic mix. Breastfeeding images removed for being offensive, violence against women staying up.
