Just been listening to Billie Jean King on Desert Island Discs. She's a really inspirational figure, as well as the tennis she's campaigned for women's rights for years. She also talks honestly about her private life and sexuality. Well worth a listen.

I heard it on Sunday. It's a terrific edition of Desert Island Discs. The programme has been having a good run lately.

Billie Jean King is a remarkable woman who made huge advances in her life.

She basically invented the concept of women’s professional sport, and the WTA has flourished by providing a product that large numbers of people are prepared to pay to watch, which attracts sponsors to use it as a marketing vehicle. Other women’s sports still have a lot to learn from her in many ways.

And fully supportive of the trans community.

Fantastic tennis player, and a tireless and outstanding campaigner for both feminism and the whole of the LGBT+ spectrum. May she continue on in the best of possible health, and her legacy live forever.
