Really pleased to see a large media publishing this Dr Nicola Williams article news.sky.com/story/womens-rights-hanging-by-a-thread-with-changes-to-transgender-law-11439448 which gives a very accessible introduction to some concerns around trans debate.

It’s the first one that I’ve noticed on Sky News, hopefully the discussion might be starting.

Excellent article. Spells out the problem nicely to all those who still aren't aware of what's going on.

StealthPolarBear · 19/07/2018 06:38

Yes excellent thanks for the link, and for someone tonfuillow on twitter I hope

pookypup · 19/07/2018 06:39

Thanks for clicky link! I couldn’t do it on my phone.

Thanks - great article.

FlippinFumin · 19/07/2018 07:26

Reading the two articles side by side, let me see, which one of them sounded empathetic and understanding? That would be the one who was a natal woman.

Which one reverted to name calling and nastiness? I will let you decide.

Pratchet · 19/07/2018 07:30

That's fantastic! Thanks for the link. Well done @asknic

Pratchet · 19/07/2018 07:33

That Sue Pascoe is parroting the lie that the Equality Act keeps us safe. Er no it doesn't, love.

UnderHerEye · 19/07/2018 07:58

I was really pleased to see these articles this morning, the longer piece includes some good quotes and lays out the GC position fairly well, I think this is a massive step forward! And the Dr Nicola Williams piece is brilliant, the fact it has been published by sky on their main news page is fantastic!

Let a woman speak!

Anlaf · 19/07/2018 08:14

Excellent Nic Williams piece.

The other piece talks of hysteria. Funny how that word gets rolled out so often with regard to this debate.

Ereshkigal · 19/07/2018 08:17

Yes. "Silly women". Pascoe also calls gender critical women "mischief makers". As if we're just doing it for our own amusement. Next to Nic's dignified piece it looks quite childish.

boatyardblues · 19/07/2018 08:23

Nic’s piece is great. The image (open plan women’s locker room) was also telling editorially.Star Nic!

Anlaf · 19/07/2018 08:34

There is a piece on sky news on this, this morning at 930. Think you can watch on their website.

Pratchet · 19/07/2018 08:41

Thanks for the heads up. Sky have obviously got the intelligence and gumption to see that this is a big story and to pursue it.

Floorplan · 19/07/2018 08:46

Well done Nicky. reading them both, quite a result I'd say!

Vickyyyy · 19/07/2018 08:52

Sky seem to be being quite balanced in this these days. I have no issue with the other article even though it does have an air of 'silly women, not udnerstanding things' about it. Aslong as both sides of the coin are showed, am happy with that. Its been one sided tosh for far too long IMO. Part of the reason the fight has been so hard, nowhere was willing to take the plunge and present the feminist argument, until Janice Turner bit the bullet, or course.

Wanderabout · 19/07/2018 09:04

The two pieces showing the arguments from both sides are great. Proper journalism and balance.

Really showing up the BBC. Particularly that Newsnight 'interview' with the Pink News Guy and Evan Davis. Didn't even bother to suggest there was another viewpoint let alone fairly represent it. Sat around discussing Pink News own survey that said most people thought self-id was a bad idea because lesbians are bigots and people don't know many trans people.

Wanderabout · 19/07/2018 09:06

To be clear the presenter and interviewer discussed unchallenged that lesbians are bigoted and the reason people are against self-Id must be because they haven't met enough trans people. The survey didn't say that. Not is it true.

fbsg · 19/07/2018 09:07

That article by Susan Pascoe implies that Pascoe is intersex - "I was born with conflicting sex characteristics, some visible some not. I was assigned male at birth." But as Pascoe was married and had children before transitioning I guess by 'invisible' 'sex characteristics', Pascoe is referring to innate lady brain rather than actual sex characteristics. I would guess that baby Pascoe was as clearly male at birth as Pascoe is now.

Maryzsnewaccount · 19/07/2018 09:28

I thought that too, fbsg. There appear to be more and more trans people declaring they are intersex, using the definition of "being born with conflicting sex characteristics" to mean "genderfeelz" rather than physical characteristics.

It's on the same lines as an organised person self-diagnosing as having ocd, or the becoming-more-popular self-diagnosis of "on the spectrum". Ordinary people becoming special snowflakes by pretending they have real, life-affecting, conditions Hmm

OvaHere · 19/07/2018 09:32

I wondered that fbsg whether they were actually intersex or just using obfuscation and appropriation to back up 'lady brain'.

Seems pretty obvious based on what you said.

Vickyyyy · 19/07/2018 09:39

Once the ladybrain lie began to fail drastically, more 'transgender' people started saying they were actually intersex. Its just awful, really. Trying to co-opt all of these groups of people.

Pratchet · 19/07/2018 09:55

Yes that's true: intersex claim is used more and more frequently. They don't care who they hurt on the way.

R0wantrees · 19/07/2018 09:58

@pookypup
Thanks so much for sharing this. I think its a really informative article.

Would you consider asking MN to ammend the title so that it includes the title of the article and author please?

It would make it easier for others to find it and read it.
