We need to march. We just do.

Yes, I was thinking the same. I'm not a big fan of marches in general, but I think the time has come where we need to do something large scale that pushes the issue up the agenda.

Typeractive · 18/07/2018 09:07

I've just assumed you're talking about the GRA, etc. Hope I'm not wrong!? Grin

Floorplan · 18/07/2018 09:10

Absolutely, preferably before its debated!

OP posts:
HotRocker · 18/07/2018 09:34

I agree, let’s take it to the streets.

Typeractive · 18/07/2018 09:45

The Pride protest was brilliant, but the reporting of it was terrible. I wonder how we could avoid a similar thing happening with any protest we organised?

Floorplan · 18/07/2018 10:01

It would be bigger, they couldn't ignore it.

Let's see how things pan out with the GRA by all means, but the Trans people have already got lots of very professional advertisements produced re the GRA: I'd like to see if we are on target to manage the same standard.

It may be too late if we lose the GRA.

OP posts:
Pratchet · 18/07/2018 10:03

It could be tiny I think! And wouldn't be reported. Better to do a targeted protest.

Pratchet · 18/07/2018 10:03

Sit in for example or a vigil

MsMcWoodle · 18/07/2018 10:08

I would love a march, but when you think about how many women actually know what's going on, and then how many would not be able to come because of logistics, childcare etc, I think it might be a mistake.
Agree with Pratchet re something targeted.
Funny gets the media interested.

Pratchet · 18/07/2018 10:09

A week long vigil under the Fawcett statue .. if that's even allowed.

Floorplan · 18/07/2018 10:10

Ok well let's start getting some ideas together then

OP posts:
Pratchet · 18/07/2018 10:11

Although as soon as we suggest it the TRA will do a sit in and hog it until September.

Floorplan · 18/07/2018 10:11

That's a start

Floorplan · 18/07/2018 10:14

I would favour something a bit more assertive though. From within the houses the gallery. Like emptying tiny leaflets as big as confetti. That couldn't be seen as dangrouse that would be hard to clean up.

OP posts:
Floorplan · 18/07/2018 10:15

Civil disobedience as demonstrated by the 10 lesbians.

OP posts:
Pratchet · 18/07/2018 10:16

That's a brilliant idea

Pratchet · 18/07/2018 10:17

Recess

Wanderabout · 18/07/2018 10:17

This. There are thousands of people who know about this and are worried but they are scattered around the country.

HotRocker · 18/07/2018 10:18

Could we start a social media movement? Some sort of slogan or hashtag to attach to posts, or a special background on Facebook if it’s possible?
A lot of people are afraid to even post on Facebook, so I can’t see them coming out onto the streets. Could we start some sort of wave of social media posting, to encourage people out of the closet?
It needs to be framed around the safeguarding of women and children. I’m sure we’ll still get accused of transphobia but people can read with their own eyes.
Also if there was a letter drafted that people could just click on and email to their MP. It might not be that affective but if enough people do it it’ll be hard to ignore.

MillyTheKid · 18/07/2018 10:19

when you think about how many women actually know what's going on

Why do you think that is when there's been - what seems to me anyway - a mass of coverage of these issues in the papers and on television over the last year or so? It's also been all over social media. So, despite all that, is it a case of the message still not getting through or maybe that a lot of people are aware but aren't bothered?

Pratchet · 18/07/2018 10:21

No, it's mainly because of the lies from TRA and the deliberate 'flying under the radar' but thanks for the contribution

Pratchet · 18/07/2018 10:21

We had a slogan #peaktrans

TheBiologicalWoman · 18/07/2018 10:25

I came to this late, but when I read about what women did to protest about Hampstead pond, I thought it was sheer imaginative genius.

Thankyou to those who did that!

I stand (or sit) with you this time.

VulvaOfSteel · 18/07/2018 10:29

I love a good march, but don't think it would work in this situation.

Education is the 100% best way to continue to fight for women's rights here.

At the moment, most people don't understand the issues fully, so what you have is people thinking you're the bad guy. 10 years ago, I was under the impression someone was holding a "anti trans" walk, I'd be there at the counter march.

You will have far more people show up to shout you down and physically assault people. Because punching a terf, is like punching a nazi. Shall I include a link to the lovely "curb stomp a Terf song"?

Marching doesn't teach anyone anything, what it does is show the numbers in support of something. Enough women showed up in pink hats to say they fucking hated Donald Trump that I think the British gov knows it has to tread very carefully with the current US administration.

If a couple hundred women are prepared to show up to a march but a thousand show up to counter act those 'nasty transphobes' you're telling the government to ignore us.

A 5 foot 2 single mother isn't going to be able to take her children to that protest (unlike the women's march). If she can find child care may be actually concerned about risks to her life.
