Kick-arse feminist conference in Manchester, Oct! FiLiA

There's a feminist conference in Manchester 20-21 October, it looks really good - proper broad range of subjects. Like many of us on FWR, it was the trans debate that last year prompted me to actively engage in feminism, but I'm feeling ready to start deepening my understanding of the wider theory, history, and activism. Do any other feminism newbies fancy going? Or oldies?! We could send a mumsnet contingent Grin... Plus there's a party on the Sat night GinGrin

Anyone been to one in previous years?

I'm going.

In previous years, if women from FWR wanted to meet up, the organisers can often provide a small room as a hang out. This happened last year in London.

cardibach · 25/08/2018 22:57

I really fancy this. Seriously considering, if there are tickets still available.

IncrediblySturdyPyjamas · 25/08/2018 22:57

To be fair, I don’t fancy dressing in a giant cock, myself 😳

Do you think if you wear the Cock outfit and I wear Incredibly Sturdy Pyjamas, we would get served quicker at the buffet?

Note, I have no idea about food on the day.

IAmSproutycus · 26/08/2018 07:24

buffet options - it’s bring your own with nearby shops available. I’m bringing packed grub so I don’t miss anything.

IncrediblySturdyPyjamas · 26/08/2018 11:43

Excellent, thanks as I wasn't sure if the venue had any options to buy food inside.

Must remember to take food. I'll have to put it in my diary otherwise I'll remember on the way there.

silentcrow · 26/08/2018 13:25

Save me a badge, I'm coming too 😊 maybe we can ask one of our resident sticker artists to make one for us!

IAmSproutycus · 26/08/2018 13:57

The info given says no food provided but venues ‘nearby’ - made me assume no buying opportunities in house. I’m worried that as soon as I arrive I’m going to just cry with happiness at being somewhere where everybody ‘gets it’ 😳

I'll be there crying with you. Flowers

Really looking forward to meeting people. The local WPUK talk was great to see people at too.

Movablefeast · 26/08/2018 16:47

I wish I could go but in North America Sad

Do they put anything on YouTube after?

Great statement here from Filia (written by Heather Brunskell-Evans) about the Green Party scandal:

BingBongSong · 30/08/2018 10:38

I would love to go but we are away (half term).

Hope to make it to the WPUK meeting in Liverpool though!

Just spotted on Twitter: mobile.twitter.com/FiLiA_charity/status/1041041850239537152

Bring sanpro and/or chocolate for the period poverty support project SMILE. Smile

TimIsHavingABadDay · 27/09/2018 13:42

I would love to come to this and my ten year old wants to come with me. If anybody has booked accommodation where did you choose?

TimIsHavingABadDay · 27/09/2018 14:09

All Booked! Knowing there would be some other mumsnetters has made me brave. I have bought tickets and booked a room at the Milton. Will stock up on sanpro :D

PlonitbatPlonit · 27/09/2018 18:24

I'll be there! Would be great to meet up with Mumsnetters

redshoeblueshoe · 29/09/2018 00:23

Timis Milton sounds a bit sterile to me - but this is local to me so I can hopefully answer questions about the area

BeyondAdultHumanFemale · 29/09/2018 08:18

Tim, I'll be bringing my kids too - 8 and 6 - as their dad is in work that weekend.

miketv · 29/09/2018 10:01

Just looking into this. For anyone who's been before, what's the Saturday evening like? Will they release the programme for the weekend beforehand?

TerfedOff · 29/09/2018 10:14

I'm gutted we are away for half term.

Fly 19th October.

BeyondAdultHumanFemale · 29/09/2018 10:50

I'd also be interested to know what the evening is like - I have tickets and have checked with filia and it isn't specifically a child-free event, but I'd like more of an idea of what to expect to figure out whether I'll be able to come, or whether I'll have to miss it
