Don't know how you do this

This constant batting back of arguments on Twitter.

The responding to blatantly fake quotes, the wilful ignoring of replying to people's tweets etc etc.

I feel like I'm getting targeted for speaking my thoughts aloud!

I basically started tweeting about the woman's place meeting and now I just feel in a bit over my head to be honest!

I read your tweets, well done Thanks

This is what it's like for women on social media. If it weren't TRAs and their witless allies wouldn't get away with as much harassment and bullying of women as they do.

OliveOylNW · 16/07/2018 21:53

I'm still going! It's like banging my head against a brick wall! Fairly sure I'm going to start pissing off my navy wife followers soon lol

Disengage your emotions. Play to the lurkers. Don't get emotional. Never get personal. Don't attack or be rude.

Keep it factual and polite.

It's a crazy world Twitter but the more gc women engage the better. We are a supportive community on there.

It's pointless engaging with low follower accounts who are just on there to talk rubbish and troll. Instead give support to women tweeting about the big issues of the day. Add your voice to theirs so people can see there are a lot of people out there who feel the same way.

Asking them to prove (false) allegations is usually a quick way of dealing with them. Or humour (helps with own sanity in this mass delusion of madness).

UpstartCrow · 16/07/2018 22:00

Its always been like this for women on social media, even on this forum. Don't let them put you off, they don't own the internet.
Learn to filter out the trolls and dont engage. They just do it for the kicks.

Thanks guys. Just been called a wazzock. Old school insults! Can't be bothered with it any more. I end up not being able to follow it because their arguments don't make a lot of sense. There's a lot of veering off the subject and telling me what I'm doing ("misgendering, scapegoating" etc). Didn't want to point out that I don't really know wtaf misgendering is. Blush

That Barbara Campbell is all over the place. Rants about transphobia, but uses the word 'transwomen' (not 'trans women') and refers to 'real women'. What does she mean by 'real women'? That's not a phrase people on her side usually use.

Interesting point was just made by someone about gender reassignment and the eq2010- is it true that it IS covered as a protected characteristic even if you haven't had any surgery? She didn't send me a link as requested just a screenshot. Something to do with EU law?

My head is SPINNING! How the "heavy hitters" keep this up is mind boggling.

OP posts:
Ereshkigal · 16/07/2018 22:15

Yes. There's no need for any medical treatment to claim the protections in the EA.

Offred · 16/07/2018 22:16

Oooo, olive! I read your blogpost t’other day! Was good!

Take breaks... I deleted my Twitter TBH having never even posted anything GC... I just don’t have the energy for it.

TammyWincyette · 16/07/2018 22:21

There's some EU gobshite somewhere about what 'living as a preferred gender' means and it's clothes, basically.

To think that sentient beings came up with this lazy, dangerous crap ...

OliveOylNW · 16/07/2018 22:23

I really wish I wasn't using my blog twitter for all this now!!!

It's exhausting!!! I was only trying to encourage people to go to a wpuk meeting to make an informed opinion. Bah.

Ignoring replies that namecall is very powerful - the last 'word' is an insult by your opponent, and is there to stand for anyone to see. People reading generally feel that those throwing insults around have lost the argument.

I have done this several times on twitter - I just ignore and block anyone that calls me a terf, a bigot or twists what I say. Leave your posts to stand in isolation for anyone who may see them.

I had some TA block me and go through my TL and pull out a load of my tweets and make sarky comments on them all. He/she/they didn't sound very intelligent - they were not worthy comments, and most didn't make sense. I just blocked.

Oldstyle · 16/07/2018 22:28

Loved your blog Olive. Sorry you are on the receiving end of all this cobblers but your words helped to give me strength and your courage encouraged me to step up. Thank you! Flowers

OliveOylNW · 16/07/2018 22:29

Just had a read of this link- how the hell would that/is that policed then??? Doesn't sound very well defined to me.

This really hasn't been thought through very well at all realises I am several months late to the feminist party.
"In the Equality Act it is known as gender reassignment. All transsexual people share the common characteristic of gender reassignment.
To be protected from gender reassignment discrimination, you do not need to have undergone any specific treatment or surgery to change from your birth sex to your preferred gender. This is because changing your physiological or other gender attributes is a personal process rather than a medical one.
You can be at any stage in the transition process – from proposing to reassign your gender, to undergoing a process to reassign your gender, or having completed it. "

The responses to any support for WP are a bit weird. I tweeted the most basic support and am now apparently classist because the only concern anybody could have about reclassifying women in law is that poor people could get a GRC if the prices went down Confused

As to how that's policed Olive - it isn't, but having the protected characteristic of gender reassignment is NOT the same thing as having the protected characteristic of sex. Someone with a GRC has the sex they acquire rather than the one they were born with, but someone without a GRC does not, even if they have the protected characteristic of reassignment.

Great blog @OliveOylNW and I love your tweets. I am one of many lurkers on Twitter. You are definitely appreciated. You Star
