Tuned into this and bits of it are quite funny, but the Natalie Cassidy thing is not coming across quite right..............its reminding me a bit of Mean Girls tbh and not in a good way.

Ah right. I was wondering which female celeb was really a man! Grin

DJLippy · 13/07/2018 23:04

I asked my sister when we were watching the show.

-Is this what feminism is? Just getting women representation spread throughout the oppressive system? Like, if there's 50% female judges and 50% female politicians - so that's the end of feminism?

She gave me that funny look again and somebody changed the subject. Fuck you female socialization...

Totally agree with the previous comments re Natalie Cassidy I thought it was off key with the supposed theme of the show to celebrate women. Bullying and smug and self-congratulatory,

Not a huge Katherine Ryan fan to put it mildly.

ReadingRiot · 14/07/2018 06:59

Was it produced by a woman. It seemed like they felt by having an (almost) all woman cast, and that was job done for feminism, and regardless of what those women actually did.

They did try to make the point, but very crudely, that there was still a long way to go, what with this being very much a one off, all white etc

I also didn't get the knocking of male "feminists". I get that very ernest ones are annoying but why be so rude about people who are sympathetic to your cause?

LassWiADelicateAir · 14/07/2018 10:52

I didn't see this and I didn't know who Natalie Cassidy or Morgana Robinson were. I don't watch soaps. Having watched clips of both of them Morgana Robinson is deeply unpleasant and not in the least bit funny.

Natalie Cassidy seems a perfectly pleasant actress with a not particularly strong working class accent.

PsychoPumpkin · 14/07/2018 11:00

I turned off shortly after Catherine Ryan used the term Cis-gendered. I knew it wasn’t the show for me at that point.

HelenaDove · 14/07/2018 17:24

Reading Riot there are some very good male feminists Graham Linehan springs to mind I think Katharine was having a dig at the ones who tell women how to DO feminism.

YY Psycho................i really dont think Jo Brand would use that term.

Not seen it but sounds v disappointing :( The NC impression can be a bit of a funny and sometimes poignant characterisation, but when you realise it is an actual person it is really, really mean. Unfortunately I agree it can often be right that women are horrible to each other. That is why I like it here!

Perhaps these were the woke women? And the others wouldn't join in?

Old fogeys that we are, we like to watch Antiques Roadtrip and the absolute best ever episode wasa celebrity all female episode, Anna Chancellor (who I want to be when I grow up) Holly Aird, and experts Natasha Raskin Sharp and Margie Cooper.

It was funny and interesting and wonderful, not puerile or silly posh boys vs you silly girls as it can be sometimes. Was a total revelation! DH thought so too and it opened his eyes a bit more :)
