Well I hope nobody will try to extrapolate to the UK from San Francisco

loveyouradvice · 13/07/2018 14:45

Clicky link??? Thanks

53rdWay · 13/07/2018 14:54

LifeSite are batshit, though. Hard to reply on them for accurate information.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 13/07/2018 14:55

For those who don't like to click on random links, I don't know anything about the blogger but the bulk of the post is directly quoting from Diane Ehrensaft, who is an extremely influential gender practitioner in the USA.

53rdWay · 13/07/2018 15:00

LifeSite is a very right-wing US Catholic site. Very involved in pro-life activism. Previously seen on MN whipping up the conservative US Catholics about the Charlie Gard and Alfie Evans cases with bollocks conspiracy theory rhetoric about the government trying to put children to death. They might be quoting entirely 100% accurately here, who knows, but I’d take whatever they have to say on anything with a huuuuge pinch of salt.

OldCrone · 13/07/2018 15:02

Diane Ehrensaft on trans toddlers.

he was assigned female at birth — there is a video of him as a toddler tearing barrettes out of then-her hair and throwing them on the ground and sobbing. That’s a gender message!

this child wore the little onesies with snap-ups in between the legs, and at age one would unsnap them to make a dress and have the dress flow. This was a child who was assigned male. That’s a preverbal communication about gender

haXXor · 13/07/2018 15:08

Or it could simply be that the barrettes and onesie were uncomfortable!

LonginesPrime · 13/07/2018 15:12

That’s a preverbal communication about gender

Yes, the message being that enforcing rigid gender stereotypes is stupid.

Melamin · 13/07/2018 15:20

I thought they all 'unsnapped their onsies' at one year old. It is one of those exciting new found skills like posting car keys in awkward places, turning the washing machine/cooker knobs everywhere you go.

Atalune · 13/07/2018 15:28

I thought I would never see my self nodding at a Christian Right think piece. But here I am.

Biological sex is a fact.

Gender is a spectrum and a wildly complex one. But surely for the love of god, it can’t be, it simply CANNOT BE that if you like pink, glitter and hair clips you’re a girl and if you like action man and blue and guns you’re a boy? Has the world lost its fucking mind??

Fuck the patriarchy.

speakingwoman · 13/07/2018 15:41

You don't need to read the Christian Right stuff as they link directly to their source:

speakingwoman · 13/07/2018 15:45

1.54 is where the speaker talks about how very young children know they are trans.

speakingwoman · 13/07/2018 15:53

It's well worth listening to her talk actually....

If you accept her premises (the idea of the innate "knowledge" of your gender that you have from age 1) then the rest of it all makes sense....

and if you don't, it doesn't.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 13/07/2018 15:54

I'd already seen this quoted here, and this is not a right-wing or Christian website. I see Ehrensaft is a developmental psychologist. 4thwavenow.com/2016/09/29/gender-affirmative-therapist-baby-who-hates-barrettes-trans-boy-questioning-sterilization-of-11-year-olds-same-as-denying-cancer-treatment/

Atalune · 14/07/2018 16:20

What I want to know is why is gender expressed in such narrow terms?

Barrettes and glitter for girls and violence for boys?! What a load a shit.
