Is transgenderism a cult?

I normally give anything that might have a hint of a conspiracy theory about it a wide berth.

So I'm wondering what others think of this essay by Jenn Smith, who is (by his own definition) a trans identified male.

I find many of the arguments compelling and the only area where I might part company is in the suggestion that for people like Trudeau this is some part of a bigger plan. I think Trudeau is just painfully woke.

UpstartCrow

Where are the studies on detransitioners? How have TRA's reacted to the suggestion it should be studied?
Someone posted a video recently that purports to be a critique of Fair Play for Women, and they were scathing at the fact they had a a link to 'detransition'.

There's your cult behaviour.

Don't forget how detransitioners were banned from the Philadelphia trans health conference. And how any detransitioner gets the 'no true trans' treatment...

Most of the transgender organizations tick all the cult check boxes.
They are even beginning to select leaders who must not be questioned.
The only box they had previously not ticked.

is gender critical feminism a cult?

it ticks most of the boxes that poeple have been holding up.
no of course its not a cult and neither is trans FFS. appropriating the word cult which as a very specific meaning for a who class of poeple is not painting your debate in a good light. but by all means keep linking to auxk things that go totally tin hat by the end as this can only reinforce the view that it's conspiracy theorists.

That one works along similar lines to people who police their own swearing because they think it makes them look coarse or common - its a form of mind control, and it limits free thinking and freedom of emotional response
.
what absolute tosh

Seconded as to what absolute tosh that comment is.

Nothing like a bit of word salad to spice up the thread /s

I remember the day I was initiated. Got my robe, mask and handbook.

Don't be stupid.

Asking questions is a basis for discussion and learning.

Ridiculing those asking the questions and those sharing their experience is bullying and domineering. "Dad knows best and if Dad doesn't know, the rest of you had better shut up for Dad's fear of being shown up".

If one can't listen to dissenting voices then one can never hear the truth of the world.

thebewilderness · 14/07/2018 04:29

No debate.
No questions.
No desisters.
Bomb threats for the heretics.
Sometimes it is hard to tell the difference between a religion and a cult.
I suppose most religions started as cults, the ones that didn't start as internal power struggles.

The question in my mind is always the same.
Can you mandate belief?
Can you codify a belief system into law?
It has been done before. It never ends well for the people or the government.

womanformallyknownaswoman · 14/07/2018 05:06

The hysteria and mob violence surrounding raising concerns and questioning the necessity for extra legislation is untoward - especially when the general move is to minimise and simplify law. It really is.

And the silence of the home secretary to a bomb threat in her constituency plus the bystander bullying of many in public life shows them up for the cowards they are.

By not standing up when one sees injustice, one condones it. So many people are disappointing in their lack of balls

to be honest I thought I did well I was quite drunk last night after a staff do. lol

Starkstaring · 14/07/2018 08:07

It's a cultish ideology that feeds off some sort of zeitgeist.

Just remember that actual trained medical professionals are surgically altering and making lifelong medical patients of vulnerable people in support of the ideology.

Gncq · 14/07/2018 08:38

Yes it is a cult.

foxyliz26 It sounds like your client is dealing with a lot of ‘closet’ homosexuals. They can sleep with a man while kidding themselves that it’s ok because they present as a woman. Though a woman smells and tastes completely differently from a man, even if the man is post op, so I’m surprised they don’t notice that obvious detail. 🤔
