Lord Lucas opening speech well worth a read.

hansard.parliament.uk/lords/2018-07-12/debates/98C2DC94-3245-45FD-AEC3-016E3A80A4A5/LGBTActionPlanGenderRecognition

The rest of the 'debate' is the normal predictable mantras not really worth revisiting tbh

Lord Stephenson is good too. Focusing on medical intervention in children.

Anyone know about the Malta model? He's advocating that.

Baroness Featherstone: Women! Be nice!

Imagine the noble Lord, Lord Addington, coming down at you in women’s rugby.

Now there's an image... Grin

Can we have a clicky link please ?

loveyouradvice · 12/07/2018 22:20

Clicky link? I can't get in!!!!! How was Baroness Shirley Williams... I know a Lib Dem but I am hoping a very independent speaker, Ive always been an admirer of her forthrightness combined with compassion

MipMipMip · 12/07/2018 22:30

Baroness Williams has already made up her mind
The Equality act is staying so they can use the exclusions, never mind that it is near impossible to because of the way it is set up. Sport can exclude trans people, they just won't. And trans people are shy in changing rooms so there is no problem. And of course, very few children are getting pubity blockers so that's ok then. Not impressed by her.

Lord Lucas is great though- he gets it.

Thanks for sharing this OP.

Imagine the noble Lord, Lord Addington, coming down at you in women’s rugby.

A thought-provoking image indeed.

The speech in general made me feel the potential to be freer from gender constraints than normal. As opposed to trapped and scared, which I often feel when engaging in TRA ideology discussions.

I liked this bit:
"The Telegraph said a couple of days ago, with reference to the Thai cave rescue, that the rescuers were demonstrating typical male virtues like courage—phooey. Courage as a male virtue? None of us men has ever given birth. Does that not take courage? It is a ridiculous idea that courage is a male virtue. No, these are human virtues."
