Any gender critical Armisted Maupin fans care for a chat about how this is treated in the books

three thoughts so far

  1. Anna Madrigal is anagram of A man and A girl. This makes Mona cross for obvious reasons

  2. When Jake (a transman) is cuddling the Mormon guy (who is gay but not out) - he does not want to have sex as does not link his gentalia with who is is

  3. Anna Madrigal seems fatherly to Mona

Armistead Mapping is swimming in Kool Aid.

Maupin obvs.

I don't know - from the books its not clear. The back story to Anna is not a simple one of a female trapped in a male body and the other transwomen fancy men not biological women

Yes I don't think there are any male lesbians but there was a graphic sex scene between a transman and a man in his last book.

but ( I could be remembering it wrong) -
in earlier books Mouse tries to pick up Jake and when Jake explains both are happy to remain friends - no expectation that Mouse is being transphobic by not wanting to have sex with Jake

So Jake wants to be a gay man but there is clearly a shared understanding (between the reader, the narrator, jake and all he meets) that he can never be. This is not due to transphobia but how it is

Ah so the most recent book adds to that by having Jake in a 'gay' relationship.

You need to read The Days of Anna Madrigal (the final book in the series). Anna Madrigal = Andy Ramsay.

So the 'gay,' relationship is dealt with in a very nuanced way I thought
