Just sent this to Layla Moran
Thank you for your response and for alerting me to the consultation.
On a related note I have read with some concern the tweets from the LGBT Libdem twitter account. This account completely disregards the concerns, rights and safety of girls, calling anyone who wants to discuss those concerns transphobic.
I am upset and disappointed to read this. I am sorry to say if this is the official view of the Libdems you have lost my vote. Which is a shame because you are a fantastic MP. I have a lot of respect and admiration for you.
Many trans people are against self ID. The sterling work done by groups such as Women’s Place UK is raising valid awareness about the ramifications of a man being recognised as a woman purely because he says he is. People are becoming concerned about the impact on prisons, healthcare, sport, refuges, changing rooms, girls groups, crime statistics, health research and so on. (I think this argument gets deliberately derailed by toilets to be honest). But to see the way members of your party acting in an official capacity as LibDems are talking to women and dismissing their concerns is troubling to say the least.

I respect anyone’s right to express themselves in whatever way they want or need. However woman are granted rights based on their biological sex and these need to be protected.
In the US recently a woman lost out in a lucrative sports scholarship because she lost a 100 metre race to a trans woman. A biological male. She was never going to win that race. Is this the future you see for our young women?
If the Libdems are firmly behind the “trans women are women” stance and that all you need to do to be treated as a woman is to say you are one, then this is the future you support and you will not have my vote.
Trans people have valid concerns and have the right to live their lives without fear, violence or prejudice. But that cannot be at the expense of the safety and girls and this twitter account utterly dismisses those concerns.
I look forward to your response.
