Should we march?

What would it take to make a decent number of women join a public demonstration in London calling for an end to this nonsense? Just how nonsensical would it have to get for you individually to attend such a March?

I'm not as well informed as a lot of these posters, I'm not sure exactly what might happen in Parliament today. I'm getting scared. Should I be scared? If I should be scared I think we need to march.

The violence of the activists and suppression of legal discussion would make it hard to organise a March at this stage. that of course is all part of the activists plan Angry

Strigiformes · 03/07/2018 13:47

Just because it would be difficult doesn't mean that we shouldn't attempt it.

Writersblock2 · 03/07/2018 13:48

If they don’t want us to march maybe we should march. We should coincide it with something else. My brain is starting to tick.

If we are doing this, it needs to be a co-ordinated effort. And all of the key groups need to be involved. If enough of them comment here then perhaps we can get our heads together.

Let’s do it!

stillathing · 03/07/2018 13:53

i am seeing marches as such male friendly spaces though. anybody male bodied can intimidate and over power so easily.

Writersblock2 · 03/07/2018 13:54

So we identify as men.

And I’m not being flippant. Well, partly. But it proves the point.

TulipsInAJug · 03/07/2018 13:54

Yes we should. Thanks for raising it. Of course we should.

TulipsInAJug · 03/07/2018 13:55

Manfriday might organise it.

Writersblock2 · 03/07/2018 13:55

Or do the utter opposite. How’s about we recreate the suffragettes? It’s been 100 years.

Orlandointhewilderness · 03/07/2018 14:19

Sign me up. I'm sick of this shit and I don't want my daughter growing up in a world where her voice is so belittled.

yearofthewoman · 03/07/2018 14:21

I'm up for marching.

Hyppolyta · 03/07/2018 14:22

Im up for marching.

We need to do something visible that will get picked up by the media and get people talking.

They can only win if they silence us, even@mnhq are trying to silence us.

So we need to shout louder, and on the streets if thats what it takes to be heard.

HotRocker · 03/07/2018 14:29

Count me in as well.

yearofthewoman · 03/07/2018 14:30

Just marching doesn't make the media if it's not on their agenda, though.

I've been on marches of 20,000+ through London and not a peep in the papers.

yearofthewoman · 03/07/2018 14:31

How’s about we recreate the suffragettes? It’s been 100 years.

This on the other hand, is more likely to catch the media's attention IMO.

Orlandointhewilderness · 03/07/2018 14:32

Even if marching isn't picked up by the press, if it is seen by a few women who otherwise would feel completely on their own then it has to be worth it.

hungryhippie · 03/07/2018 14:38

I would be up for this.
I just feel so helpless at the moment and want to do 'something'.

Bamc1977 · 03/07/2018 14:39

Go for it but don’t expect any press attention unless there is trouble there and if there is trouble expect the media to lying about it and blame you all for it. If there is a March I suspect you’re all going to find out just how biased the press is and why Donald trump calls the media fake news.

Bamc1977 · 03/07/2018 14:42

“Even if marching isn't picked up by the press” I think your going to find out that the press “pick up on it” if they support the cause so don’t expect it reported regardless of how much you tell the about it unless there is something bad to say

UpstartCrow · 03/07/2018 15:11

Trump listens to Alex Jones and Paula White, so forgive me for being skeptical about how much you have to teach anyone here.

WhereDoWeBeginToCovetClarice · 03/07/2018 15:35

I am up for marching. Perhaps we could asks the organisers of other marches such as Million Women Rise for tips.

IAmLurkacus · 03/07/2018 16:04

I’d march now and I’ve never marched for anything ever.

Stopthisnow · 03/07/2018 16:07

I am up for marching. I think we do have to do more in real life to get the message out. There are plenty of things that we can do to get the message out, manfriday has set a good example, we should keep it up by organising similar things frequently. One large march or several smaller marches held around the country is also a good idea I think.

yearofthewoman · 03/07/2018 16:25

Even if marching isn't picked up by the press, if it is seen by a few women who otherwise would feel completely on their own then it has to be worth it.

Yes, marching is great for forging links with people concerned about the same issue.

However, it depends what we want to do. If the point is to make change, and quickly, then we may need to think creatively about how we do this.

OvaHere · 03/07/2018 16:33

I'd be up for marching but it's going to be difficult to get the word out because the normal channels that these things are spread via, FB and twitter etc.. will shut it down.

A poor turn out due to not being able to organise without sabotage or women being fearful could backfire.

Floorplan · 03/07/2018 16:38

I think it would be important to pick our moment. A small showing might be counterproductive, but if we start organising now we'll be ready to act if and when things get Canada-style crazy.
