Should we march?

What would it take to make a decent number of women join a public demonstration in London calling for an end to this nonsense? Just how nonsensical would it have to get for you individually to attend such a March?

I'm not as well informed as a lot of these posters, I'm not sure exactly what might happen in Parliament today. I'm getting scared. Should I be scared? If I should be scared I think we need to march.

I think we need to pick it for during the consultation period. We can organise quickly. To be effective I think we need to represent from all areas of the U.K., coming together centrally. I’m pretty sure there are enough of us who feel strongly about this. And if we do it and it doesn’t work? At least we have tried, right?

Nevertheless, she persisted

winterinmadeira · 03/07/2018 17:17

I would definitely march. It needs to be accessible and publicised though so that we know about it. Obviously not too publicised so that it gets hijacked which does make it challenging but not impossible

Floorplan · 03/07/2018 17:27

Would any of the organised groups be actively in favour of this?

RaininSummer · 03/07/2018 17:27

One problem with marching is that unfortunately I bet a lot of us couldn't do it because if work and family commitments as well as distance and cost so we would need to pretty sure of a good turn out do that we don't look like minority nutjobs. Would be very up for marching however if feasible.

Could we chain ourselves to things like the suffragettes?

Writersblock2 · 03/07/2018 17:38

I don’t know about chaining ourselves, but I think if we dressed up it would look amazing (if there was enough of us).

Also: we all have work commitments, but where possible, I’d say it’s worth a day or two if annual leave (if we can!). Personally, I’d not want any “if only...” feelings later on.

FloorPlan - I may have pinged a message or two off to other groups...

Count LAWS in.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 03/07/2018 17:45

Transactivists have a massive advantage in the street. Ask Maria MacLachlan. Ask the lesbians beaten by transwomen at the San Francisco Dyke March (where dykes are not welcome).

Something witty and ingenious might work, but I don't think a march makes sense.

Katy75 · 03/07/2018 17:45

I would march too

Floorplan · 03/07/2018 17:46

Great Writersblock

Some of the threads at the moment are so worrying, like the Cotton Ceiling one. Like others have said, this whole thing is affecting women's mental health. It is like living with an abusive partner gas-lighting you. The MP who today said TWAW like it would be an arrestable offence to disagree.

OP posts:
Floorplan · 03/07/2018 17:47

Why does it make no sense Prawn? TWAW makes no sense.

Terfnserf · 03/07/2018 17:54

Willing to be chained to some railings, i am slightly disabled so good publicity! Also retired so don't give a toss if arrested.

Floorplan · 03/07/2018 17:58

Chained to railings seems quite popular. Is that something the suffragettes actually invented?

There is a great March you could go to on Saturday, starts at Portland Square London. Thousands will attend, you might be able to make a valid point there,

FermatsTheorem · 03/07/2018 18:07

Are you seriously suggesting GC posters here should go and troll the Pride march, Giddy?

Given that you posted this: "I was a Trans Allie until I saw how much they are abused , so now I am a Trans Champion and will support them all the way," on another thread, that's a horrible example of behaving as an agent provocateur.

Nasty, nasty behaviour. Just because TRAs think it is okay to picket meetings, try to obstruct people going about their lawful business, punch women in the face, harrass them on (completely unconnected) trade union picket lines, doxx them, threaten their employers - none of this means we actually want suggestions from people like you that we should lower ourselves to your level.

OvaHere · 03/07/2018 18:09

I think Giddy is talking about the anti Trump march. No sure how that is relevant though. I'm sure plenty of MNetters will be there already.

FermatsTheorem · 03/07/2018 18:13

I'll be interested to see the clarification. Both marches are taking place in London on Saturday, no mention of the start point for the anti-Trump one, but last year's pride started from Portland Square, which is why I assumed that was the one being talked about.

Agerbilatemycardigan · 03/07/2018 18:15

Unfortunately Man Friday had to disband for safety reasons after being doxxed TulipsInAJug but I think we need to continue their legacy.

So what if activists threaten us? There are far more of us than there are of them, and we have more skin in the game. More to lose. We can't afford to give an inch.

Men have always tried to subdue us. If it weren't for the strong women that came before us, I hate to think where we'd be now. If a few violent and entitled misogynists think they can send us back to a time where the patriarchy was king, they can just fuck right off.

Our daughters deserve better. Hell, WE deserve better.

yearofthewoman · 03/07/2018 18:22

Man Friday has not disbanded.

Man Friday has shut the Facebook group that had loads of members who got doxed by some nutcase.

The activists who were in Man Friday will still be organising and doing actions, however, as far as I know. Why wouldn't they? Presumably the core people all know each other in RL now they've done actions together?

But that doesn't mean you can't "carry on in their legacy" anyway!

Writersblock2 · 03/07/2018 18:23

That’s the spirit! :)

Agerbilatemycardigan · 03/07/2018 18:29

I was told they'd disbanded, but more than happy to be proved wrong Smile

Hackedoffwoman · 03/07/2018 18:38

As yearofwomen stated. MF only closed the FB account due to the doxing of its members.

Man Friday is alive and thriving! The movement continues to grow every minute/ hour/ day as more women realise what there is at stake.

Talk to all women in your community. We didn't have FB or Twitter a hundred years ago and we certainly don't need it today!

Giddy99 · 03/07/2018 19:05

If you were actually interested in politics other than your specialty of Trans issues , you would know that the Anti Trump March is the 16th.

Bamc1977 · 03/07/2018 20:34

@“UpstartCrow
Trump listens to Alex Jones and Paula White, so forgive me for being skeptical about how much you have to teach anyone here.”
Well if I have anything worth listening to or not, that’s for others to do decide I suppose.... I don’t think you’re gonna like this but I think Trump ROCKS! Why? Because I think he is going to take a sledgehammer to the established world order and that this has to happen in a fourth turning. So I see Trump as a sign of the times so to speak. Here is what I think is happening, there are two things:

  1. The trans rights agenda and (mostly) everything else you are upset about is merely the logical conclusion of the postmodernist political philosophy that has been on the rise in the west since the 1960’s. This philosophy has (so far) crushed every opponent and is now dominat and it is only now that you are finding out what that actually looks like and what that actually means.
  2. We are also in the middle of a forth turning. Struss and Howe wrote the book in the 1990’s but it appears to me these historians were right. Steve Bannon and Al Gore seem to me to have also embraced their work.
MistressDeeCee · 03/07/2018 20:45

I do think there should be a march. But am concerned this is a public board. Everything written is being read.

Would enough women turn up?

I do think about the suffragettes, how scared many of them must have been, yet they still went out there.

I'm semi-retired and self-employed anyway so easy for me to say I guess, as I've nothing to lose. I'm also a tallish sturdy girl with martial arts training so anyone trying to hit me is going to get it I'm not standing for that shit.

Anyway if there is a march yeah I'm up for it. I have daughters I can't not go.

UpstartCrow · 03/07/2018 20:50

Bamc1977
I disagree with your analysis. Trump isn't going to 'smash' anything; he's another capitalist only interested in upholding the system for as long as he can milk it.

Bamc1977 · 03/07/2018 21:03

Really? He’s already started a trade war (globalisation is part of the established order) and told Angela Merkel that the USA are not prepared to have Germany freeloading off America for their defence via NATO. I see that as two radical changes from the previous international status quo. How do you see that? Seriously is that just noise do you think? And Trump is right in my opinion, certain nations have freeloaded for far to long. I hope Trump tells Germany that America will no longer protect them. After all why should they? That’s a collapsing world order to my mind.
