It's a good thing they roll out jane Faye every time - not a convincing voice

Pratchet · 01/07/2018 11:36

Oh no - editor pink news. The bbc always gives up at the final hurdle.

This PN guy keeps saying “if people
identify as trans” - I thought we were told that no one identifies as trans and that’s why we are not permitted to use a certain factual descriptive term for people who do so?

Ereshkigal · 01/07/2018 11:43

Just got up and wound to the correct bit on iplayer! Need to make a coffee first. Not sure my blood pressure will thank me for this having seen that smarmy PN misogynist.

heresyandwitchcraft · 01/07/2018 11:59

This PN guy is really trying to spin this. The BBC should have had a women's campaigner there to balance him out.
"We don't need to worry" aka "Calm down, dear"
I am worried.

To any Pink-News supporting gay man reading this:
I was born a female, attracted to men (aka heterosexual)
Let's say I decide that actually I am a man, because I've always tended to be masculine, and that I am gay (as I am still attracted to men).
According to your ideology, I'm now exactly the same as any male, no matter how I present myself, and have always been a man.
Could I now tell you to have sex with me and my vagina? Can I say you're transphobic for refusing to consider me as a sexual partner?
Could I say I share the struggles of the gay liberation movement? That I know what it's like to grow up as a gay man, exactly the same as you? If I wear a dress that makes me the same as any drag queen?

This is the ideology you are supporting. This is happening to lesbians. Stop self-ID and the extremes of trans ideology, because it affects you too.

Pratchet · 01/07/2018 12:01

Yes the imbalance is Huuuge

OP posts:
Pratchet · 01/07/2018 12:05

Also Ellie Price is trying to be a feminist but doesn't want to get piled on by the trans lobby.

OP posts:
Ereshkigal · 01/07/2018 12:07

That was shite. How dare the BBC not let a gender critical person, male or female, challenge Butterworth's disingenuous and dismissive statements?

Pratchet · 01/07/2018 12:08

Let's all complain

BelleHathor · 01/07/2018 12:08

Thank Goddess for ManFriday and all the feminists on mumsnet who have persisted. What Cohen was basically saying was a year ago we had privately lobbied the government and self id was a shoe-in through the backdoor then those pesky women found out and asked too many questions so now there is actually going to be a consultation and TRAs proposals will see the light.

It will be on catchup here;

How far in does it start?

How many of us can they fob off all at once

I think the pictures of Fae framed side on together with pregnant reporter were good though and I wonder if there is an ally in the production team. The contrast is obvious.

R0wantrees · 01/07/2018 12:10

So
'following Ireland other countries and no problems'
'no change, TW already access these spaces and no problems'
'MF causing fear harm abuse attack, dehumanising and exclusionary'
'especially harmful for trans men'
'anti trans-rights in general'
'trans lobby never wanted to change the Equalities Act'
'never been asked for a birth certificate to use the loo'
'its just paperwork'
'2010 law already allows'
'campaign of misinformation, fuelled by hostile press'
'Don't need to worry'

PencilsInSpace · 01/07/2018 12:10

Just watched it, it's about 30 mins in.

Ereshkigal · 01/07/2018 12:11

Upstart, it was just after half 11.

Ereshkigal · 01/07/2018 12:12

Cross post Smile

Macareaux · 01/07/2018 12:13

That said, I doubt Jane Fae is winning many converts. People have visceral reactions. If they'd used Paris Lees who does actually pass (sorry Jane) it would have worried people less.

Ereshkigal · 01/07/2018 12:14

Agree Macareaux. They always wheel out Fae. Might be worth reminding people on twitter of some of Fae's other views.

Pratchet · 01/07/2018 12:16

We have got to give credit to Ellie Price here. This can't be easy.

OP posts:
Pratchet · 01/07/2018 12:17

It's the people who let Pink News on alone who are the problem.

OP posts:
R0wantrees · 01/07/2018 12:17

It interesting that the Man Friday women were described as 'activists' whilst Jane Fae and the editor of Pink News were not....
