I'm not in the group but if it's any small consolation to those who were, any rational person outside of it will look at those tweets then back away slowly and dismiss them.

MistyEyedMixture · 30/06/2018 11:52

itsallgoingtobefine that hasn't been leaked as far as I know and I won't say I doubt it will be because I don't want to jinx it. It appears the fbk list was leaked in some kind of revenge against manfriday.

LangCleg · 30/06/2018 12:00

Man Friday are decent principled and straight forward activists. Everyone likes them and appreciates what they do.

Hear, hear.

LangCleg · 30/06/2018 12:01

Regardless of the rights and wrongs about alleged comments made on line, it is just WRONG to publish women's names and identifying details online. It's an invitation to the aggressive unstable individual to take direct action against them for having political views.

And hear hear to this.

Doxxing has real world consequences and, while I am sympathetic to mental health issues, it is and unforgivable thing to do.

BeyondRaggydoll · 30/06/2018 12:05

She has leaked women who have done nothing but join the group. Some of those women have mh issues, some are disabled, some are older and some are vulnerable. That kinda limits my sympathy for her.

TellsEveryoneRealFacts · 30/06/2018 12:08

I would also be aware of ANYONE appearing to be too PURRfectly GC.

On here, any anywhere...

MistyEyedMixture · 30/06/2018 12:08

Y'Don't need to have sympathy for the leaker if you don't feel any, I think several PP's and myself included feel it's best not to insult the indivdual though.

CatsAfterSlumber · 30/06/2018 12:32

I would also be aware of ANYONE appearing to be too PURRfectly GC.

Well, indeed.

It's obviously a minor detail given the seriousness of what happened; but changing my username yesterday to something including Cats after 2 or 3 years of using a better known one probably wasn't the best timing, given the fact that an organisation allegedly involved in these events had a name rather like Cat and a particular TRA has been posting photos of cats with glee ever since. Oh well.

I see that my first post last night is still hidden pending mods having a look at it. It just contained the hashtag under which all this was being discussed on Twitter last night, which - if followed far enough - led to the list of names. Someone clearly thought that was unhelpful and reported the post, which is fine. I only did it because people were understandably trying to establish if they were on the list and because it seemed to me that anyone wanting to make mischief with the list would be able to access it perfectly well without needing to trawl MN threads looking for clues. But it's no doubt better to be safe than sorry.

placemats · 30/06/2018 12:37

The list is still there.

Most surely a breach of the Data Protection Act, especially under EU law. Some people on that list are not on Twitter either.

Ereshkigal · 30/06/2018 12:41

If you see the list on Twitter, report it. They have taken the original tweet down and they should take doxxing screenshots down too.

MistyEyedMixture · 30/06/2018 12:42

Just checked no statement on twitter, the website or confirmation manfriday has contacted those directly who have been leaked.

BeyondRaggydoll · 30/06/2018 12:47

Why would you need confirmation misty? If you're on the list and haven't been contacted then fair enough, but the people I know on the list have all been made aware.

R0wantrees · 30/06/2018 12:48

Regardless of the rights and wrongs about alleged comments made on line, it is just WRONG to publish women's names and identifying details online. It's an invitation to the aggressive unstable individual to take direct action against them for having political views.

I think this should remain the focus.

UpstartCrow · 30/06/2018 12:48

I don't know why you expect them to. They don't keep peoples details.

MistyEyedMixture · 30/06/2018 12:52

I'm worried about the people on the list who may not use mumsnet and have no idea this has happened, they need to check privacy settings on sm and potentially speak to employers. It seems logical to me that you post there has been a leak on Twitter and on the website to try to alert people as much as you possibly can.

OvaHere · 30/06/2018 12:55

I don't see how MF would know who was a member of their group at the time the data was taken. FB is an opt in and out thing, people can join and leave groups at will.

Now the group is gone they wouldn't know who was a member unless they were keeping a separate list or spreadsheet of the people that joined. Which I'm assuming they probably didn't do because they wouldn't have a reason to.

gendercritter · 30/06/2018 12:57

I completely agree. It is absolutely inexcusable.

I think the person who has done this might have really quite complex issues - I got the sense of that in my dealings with them separate to MN. It's not an excuse, I'm just wishing she'd never been involved with Man Friday and I'd known more to warn people. This isn't just someone lashing out because they're angry.

placemats · 30/06/2018 12:59

Lass To add. They took the names from the secret Facebook group. Some of those Facebook members still have an open policy on their profile, which is why only some of those doxxed have their work details exposed. I haven't an open policy so my details cannot be accessed, only my name and my name if searched on Facebook throws up about 100 profiles from people all around the world, possibly more.

Let's be clear, ALL members of the group were outed. This is a private group on Facebook. It's a serious breach of the terms of conditions to belonging to Facebook a box you must sign in order to
create a profile.

"Soooo, I’ve been doxxed as being a member of man Friday. I’m sure that my belonging to a group that I’ve drawn lots of cartoons for will come as a massive shock to all of my followers. I do have a few thoughts about sad, bitter little vegetables though."

Heads up to all ManFriday members

Sarahconnor1 · 30/06/2018 13:23
