Being part of this activism has shown me so many shades of shit women I can't even begin to name them all.

Man Friday are decent principled and straight forward activists. Everyone likes them and appreciates what they do.

To anyone whose name has been leaked on here - please do consider complaining against the leaker to the Information Commissioner's Office. This is a breach under data protection law/the GDPR and you have every right to challenge it.
To be he leaker - what an unpleasant person you are.

The transwoman who's been tweeting at length about this has been trying to get pick-up in various media outlets, here and in the US; and it seems clear that Mumsnet is the main target.

Which one is tweeting at length about it?

And also the person who is continuing to share screenshots publicly after twitter have removed the information can be reported can't they?

LassWiADelicateAir · 30/06/2018 11:01

I'm not in Man Friday. I don't like Man Friday and its stunts and have said so before on here.

A few things puzzle me.

  1. Given all the concerns about doxxing, which are frequently mentioned on FWR, why were the Man Friday site owners collecting and storing work addresses? I've seen the list - many of the names are not the "Jane Smith" type. The combination of name and workplace makes members identifiable.
  1. Why did MF store data like that? Under GDPR data should only be stored for the necessary purpose and only for so long as necessary. The only justification for even asking for a home address or work address I can see would be verify ID. If that is the case the information should have been deleted once verified. It seems to me MF has behaved badly and irresponsibly by taking this data and not locking it down or deleting it when its purpose was served. None of the campaign groups or charities I support have ever had sight of my work address.
  1. Have the owners of MF reported this breach to the ICO? They have a duty to do so.
  1. I didn't initially get the reference to "made from old ladies tears". I do now. It's not clever or funny and just fans the flames.
  1. Following on from 4 I'm getting the impression from twitter , which of course may be wrong, that there was indeed behind the scenes discussion of an unpleasant nature about the person being discussed here. That seems sneaky to me and given the concerns about doxxing a bit dim.

If private discussions were needed about a member's behaviour would it not have been safer to use your personal email accounts or Snapchat to correspond with each other?

So all in all I was never impressed by MF and even less so now.

MistyEyedMixture · 30/06/2018 11:01

Out of interest have the people listed been informed or is manfriday relying on mumsnet to get the word out?

Writersblock2 · 30/06/2018 11:02

I’d say this does mean one thing: these campaigns are having impact. If they didn’t then we wouldn’t be hounded about them, would we?

More than ever we need to keep fighting. We have done nothing wrong by being women concerned about our rights and upholding the law. That’s it.

Cross post with Lass a lot of good points there.

LassWiADelicateAir · 30/06/2018 11:03

Good point Misty. Very good point.

MistyEyedMixture · 30/06/2018 11:04

That's what I thought proudest thank you for the confirmation.

OfSpartacus · 30/06/2018 11:04

The list is a download of the group members from Facebook. If jobs and locations are there it is because of peoples Facebook settings.

Ereshkigal · 30/06/2018 11:05

It's a FB group. Anyone in the group could pull off the member list which would have any information you made public on FB, surely? My privacy settings on FB are quite tight but many people's aren't and it shows location, workplace etc. I've also seen the list and that is what it looks like to me.

BeyondRaggydoll · 30/06/2018 11:06

Should every person named complain, or just MF on behalf of all?

Writersblock2 · 30/06/2018 11:06

Lass - MN we’re not storing info. The person who posted the info was in the group and wrote down the list of members. Some members had locations and workplaces listed on their accounts. It’s not ManFriday’s fault that this happened!

In terms of any conversation about the person who posted this, I have no idea. However I do know that the ManFriday crew are an amazing bunch of women who genuinely go out of their way to help.

I didn’t agree with the initial act of topless swimming either and I made it clear at the time, however I don’t have to agree with all things a person does to defend their right to do it.

I can honestly say, hand on heart, I defend the group. I’ve mostly had interactions with Hannah and she’s one of the nicest, most giving women I have met during my GC advetures. I stand by her.

UpstartCrow · 30/06/2018 11:07

To answer some of Lass' questions;

  1. MF didnt do that, the person doxxing the group accessed that data from Facebook.

  2. MF did not store any data.

  3. MF have gone to the police. They did not store or lose any data and have no duty to report themselves to ICO.

  4. ) People who were not involved in any of the discussions about that persons erratic behaviour have been doxxed. The discussion is not the reason the doxxing happened.

Writersblock2 · 30/06/2018 11:07

MF not MN*

MyRelationshipIsWeird · 30/06/2018 11:09

I’m on the list the fuckers - they obviously don’t have much to go on if all they have is name + town but even so, it’s a closed/private group. How fucking dare they. Angry. Luckily my employer won’t give a fuck as they agree with everything I say on the matter.

Could you compare the list of names they have published against the list of members to work out who is missing and therefore the mole? Or is the old member list gone now?

Awful that they’re trying to paint it as if we have something to hide as well. Rather than acknowledging that they have bullied us into closing to down due to fear of male VAWG. I noticed an event I had publicised on my Facebook page for next weekend, which I have since made friends-only rather than public, for fear these idiots try to sabaotage the whole thing with a bomb threat or something. They really are terrorises and should be treated as such.

GenderApostate · 30/06/2018 11:09

So this is the same Woman who also leaked the JJ legal letter? (According to the stinky vegetable twit) .
Loose cannon is an understatement!

I suggest anyone who is fb friends with her, cuts ties immediately, I must have accepted a request from her months ago as a friend of a friend !

Sarahconnor1 · 30/06/2018 11:10

People who were not involved in any of the discussions about that persons erratic behaviour have been doxxed. The discussion is not the reason the doxxing happened

This is a really important point.

Ereshkigal · 30/06/2018 11:12

It is a key point.

Sarahconnor1 · 30/06/2018 11:16

So this is the same Woman who also leaked the JJ legal letter?

I believe so. I recall seeing a tweet from them where they claimed it was unintentional and they didn't know it shouldn't be shared. Only they know the truth.

It's worth pointing out that while stinky vegetable is all over Twitter saying how mean we and MF are, they have been putting the boot into the doxxer on a regular basis for some time now. So tell us again who are the bullies?

Ereshkigal · 30/06/2018 11:17

they have been putting the boot into the doxxer on a regular basis for some time now. So tell us again who are the bullies?

YY. This exactly.
